Okay i just built a new system, I need to installt the OS, in order to do that I need to be able to use my CD-ROM, which happens to be a slot loading pioneer, It says it uses the default Windows CD ROM drivers. The only other computer Ihave is a compaq, and my floppy is screwed up on it, so how can I get the drivers onto my new computer?

Oh yeah somebody told me to check bootdisk.com for something else, but I already have a startup disk, i just need the CD ROM drivers, are they on bootdisk.com? Will making the CDROM bootable make it able to be used even without the drivers?

Making the cd bootable in the bios will allow you to install the OS without the need for a floppy at all.

Nothing doing guys, booting from the CDROM still gives me a missing OS error. Now what.

<< but I already have a startup disk, i just need the CD ROM drivers, are they on bootdisk >>

yes ,the generic drivers are on the boot disk. you need to reboot with the boot disk & choose startup with cd support. at the A prompt type in the next letter above your cd drive letter to access your cd drive ie D: or E: & then type setup & press enter to load OS!
you need the next letter up because of the ram drive!

yeah i think so, Okay wait a minute, I partitioned the hard drive before i did all this, so it said my hard drive was D and E, wouldn't that make my CDROM F:, I also have an LS 120, and a zip in it.

Where did this post go, it wasn't in the list i had to do a search for it?

actually no, not yet. I seem to be having problems with fdisk, so i was planning on getting the OS installed then installing a third party partition program, then partitioning then formatting.

I think i did, that, but yet all I could do was make one primary, and one extended with a logical in it, how do people get more than 2 partitions on a drive if it is like this. And okay i will do all of that, but I still have no way of installing the OS.

from the top:

create primary partition
create extended partition
create x number of logical partitions in extended
make the primary partition active
reboot
format c: /s (for system)

Set bios to boot from cdrom
pop in your win** disc and it should bootup fine.

assuming you fdisked properly & made the primary partition active, did you format C partition by typing format C:/S?
for the other partition you type format D:

Okay i will try that, but it seemed like I would make the primary, then an extended, then it seemed like it would only allow 1 logical, no matter what size i make it, if I try to make another it says logical partition already exsists or something.

if the format command is not on your startup disk then I suggest you go to someone with a win98 pc & make a new startup disk from
control panel/add|remove programs/startup disk!
you'll not get any futher without a proper startup floppy.
