Madden was a huge part of my life growing up.

I started playing football when I was 8 but I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't have a dad to teach me how to play, so I watched football. I learned a lot from listening to him.

Not all of it was good though. I was a bit too young to realize that more than half of what he said he made up. I remember asking my Rocket Football coach if our QB should throw a "tweener" on a play. He just looked at me like I was on drugs.

In some ways, I agree, but the in the more later recent years, his commentary was lacking. Compare that commentary to when he was paired up with Summerall in the 90s, and it's completely different.

Yeah, I was going to make a post about this -- Madden and Summerall were the best duo. Pat was a great, straight-laced, and laid back counter to Madden's enthusiasm and excitement.
