I really like firefox, A LOT!

Before switching over from the dark side I fought with myself tooth and nail about giving firefox a try, then I did and I liked it. Then I switched to the 2.0 a few months ago and it had spell checker

I had no idea how many words I was mis-spelling just because I was always pronouncing them wrong my whole life and no one ever corrected me on the way some words are spoken.
Simular is one that sticks out because I just used it. I always pronounced it SIM U LAR but I just found out you spell it as similar, which now has me looking at it trying to pronounce it correctly for the first time in my life. I have always spelled it the other way an never been corrected on it either

So is it
SIM I (AS I) LAR
or
SIM A LAR?

never really had a problem with misspelling things...but it can be helpful in some situations

I'm terrible at writing these out but here goes -

the second i is prounounced the same as the first one

sim (as in the Sims game)
ih (same sound as the first one)
lur (as in the butler Lurch)

I find myself confusing similar with familiar as in "similiar." >_<

I still use FF 1.5.0.9

oh, its the browser for OS X, I like firefox too but its too much of a memory hog

Firefox actually had a false positive for an incorrectly spelled word once, I dont remember what it was though. Where does Firefox get its spelling references?

I think your right on the that. I had a word I knew 100% was spelled correctly but it kept telling me it was wrong and for the life of me I just cannot remember it right now.

I don't know where it gets it from, but if anyone here knows me well remembers how bad my spelling used to be

And I love that I can just right click on a wrong word and it gives me several choices on what it thinks I was trying to spell. Great for some of the bigger ones I just cannot spell at all. I just sound them out and spell it wrong of course, right click and pick the right one

Now if only it could correct me on punctuation and getting the commas where they need to go all the time. Yes, yes, I suk at the grammar, public schools I went to were not the best and I had 2-3 different ones a year so I got swept under the carpet. Pretty much everything I have learned it has been on my own. Senior year, and 2nd school for the year,I was offered a pass pass, fail still pass and get the hell out since they saw my record and all the schools I went to my whole life. I wasn't a trouble maker getting kicked out mind you, my parents just thought it was fun to move all the time for some reason and fvcking up my childhood in the process without having a steady home life, and no friends I could ever call my best friend because we'd move once I made a few.

To be precise, the second syllable is a schwa; so it can pronounced as the "i" in "it," the "u" in "hut," or the "e" in "bet" and it's correct.

Yes, it is a schwa. However, the sounds you list are not schwa sounds. A better list would be something like: "a" in about, "e" in "kitten", "i" in "candidate", "o" in "collide", or "u" in "medium".

Edit: A schwa is a type of unstressed syllable, by the way.

I realize the sounds I listed aren't technically schwas. Rather, they sound like schwas. Is that better?

I've found that Merriam Webster's website is an invaluable resource. Type in any word and it gives you the definition, and also a link that will play an audio clip of the word. I've figured out how to pronounce many a word from this.
