After Perot both main parties were scared shitless and essentially locked out all 3rd parties and making it near impossible for any to get a foothold today.
It wasn't just Perot, it was also Nader in 2000 that cost Gore the election.

it was gore that cost gore the election, he wasn't a very good candidate during that election.

True, but the few percentage points that Nader took from him made the difference in a key state.
We had some really bad candidates lately. Bush, McCain, Kerry, Gore, Romney. Bleh. No wonder Obama doesn't seem that bad right now.
