I really dislike the new CNN Headline News

I know it may not be exactly "new" (maybe a year now?), but I liked the former one much better. Those new annoying graphics they have all over the screen aren't the worst, it's the artificial feel of anchor's "conversation" in their reporting. I'm listening to it right now, and before nearly every new story the news anchor will interject an "alright" or the "um's" etc to make their reporting seem more conversational and more "hip" I guess, which are completely intentional (I'll bet they even have them in the teleprompters). They've fired all the old people that used to report and have just these young people. I don't know who they're trying to appeal to either, I'm 18 and don't find it appealing. I've also seen them have a band come perform on the show, a band on headline news. I almost died when I saw that. And I also can't STAND their "hollywood" anchor who reports on all the hollywood buzz. She has these dread locks that drive me nuts, I always change the channel when she come's on. Why is headline news reporting that Courtney Cox broke a finger nail? Who the hell cares? Sorry, everything about it is just irritating me. Wow, I just heard the anchor say to the other anchor "we'll check in again in like 30 minutes". Stop trying to be "hip"! Just report the f*cking news!

While I agree with you, I'd say that since they were taken over by AOL, they have decided to begin appealing to the masses. :(

Yes, or try CNN.COM.

At least they haven't destroyed their writing yet. Although their writers do have a few quirks that bug me. It's still quality English.

American news media is a "packaged product" rather then genuine reporting. Optimized to sell commercial time. And oriented towards the least common denominator among the viewing public. Wana bet that somewhere along the line they will have a rap hiphop theme to rope em all in??

CNN is not part of my subscription. :D I didn't order any news-only channels since I usually read my news off the Internet any ways. Besides, other channels offer me news when I need to as well, albeit not 24 hours of coverage.

I was recently thinking the exact same thing. I used to watch CNN Headline News quite frequently, but I really dislike the new format. It just looks so cheap.

I don't know. Having more female anchors who are easier on the eyes does make hearing bad news about the stock market less painful...
