I read and read and still can't tell the difference between i845GE & i845PE!

Yep there is one big difference!!! The "G" in the i845GE means it has onboard graphics (GF2 mx or something equivalent)....

It may have aslightly different bios setup and the early i845e and i845g's had a difference in that the g's offered a 4:5 mem ratio which was quite nice in the ocing of lower multiplier chips to high fsb....
 
PE supports officially DDR 333 and hyperthreading and is the successor to 845E/845GE
GE does not officialy support DDR333 (but you can run it) and is the older chipset. Makes no sense to get this now.
Do I have this right?
 
Nope...

i845E/i845G was the older non ddr333 supported chipset

i845PE/i845GE are the newer chipset with ddr333 support
