So I ran over a deer carcass last night. No damage to the car since it was already mashed up pretty good by other drivers, but it was a pretty big piece. I only hit the wind deflector under the car. I washed most of the deer juice off at a friends house with a hose. Ugh! Now I have to do a complete detailing of the car because it makes me feel unclean driving the car around now.

Did you find chunks of meat in your wheel well? If so, toss'em on the barbie.

I didn't run over it with my wheel. I was going about 60mph so too fast to swerve, and too late to brake, so I just went straight for it.

You should have stopped and picked up as much of the meat as you could and throw it in the trunk. That meat is nicely aged and tender now!

Happened to me last year. Only I hit it going about 80. And it was a freshly hit, fully grown deer. I rounded a bend in the expressway, and it was right in front of me...I couldn't avoid it.

Bent my tie rod all to hell, threw my alignment way out, got gibbed deer meat and nasty looking green stuff all over my wheel wells, undercarriage, and exhaust - and stuck in my brake calipers.

Hosed off what I could at a 24 hour DIY car wash, but I couldn't get all of it. I had to take the brakes completely apart and pull the deer bits out with needle nose pliers to get them to work properly again. And, my car stank like rotten deer every time the exhaust heated up for about 8 months after that.

I still find bits of fur stuck in odd places whenever I work on it.

Don't feel bad. Back when I was in high school, around graduation time, a friend was coming home late one night. Prolly around 11 or so. She was taking a shortcut through a neighborhood she knew pretty well, and made a turn from one street to another......

.....and felt her car go over something lying in the road. Something LARGE. She pulled over, thinking it was a dog, or something........

And saw she'd run over a human body!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, she was oh so slightly freaked out! She ran to the nearest house, and banged on the front door until someone woke up, then screamed for them to call the police. Cops show up, along with an ambulance, and they realize pretty much right away that she had hit a dead body. The ME showed up a bit later, and verified that this person had been dead for 2 to 3 hours when she hit the body. They surmised that he had had a heart attack while crossing the road, and it just dropped him dead on the spot.

Believe me, it took her a while to get over that one!! :(

A friend told me that they hit a deer once, and part of it got stuck inside the engine...and well it gets pretty hot in there...so it started to cook the deer...and it didn't smell too good. They left it in there for around two weeks before cleaning it out.

I've lived in Salt Lake Ciy about 1 year now and in that time I'll bet I have seen 15 dear carcasses on the roads around here. A pretty common sight around here.

A cousin of mine messed up his 300ZX pretty badly on a deer.

A buddy of mine hit a deer with his Oldsmobile - one of those old ones made of real metal and with a V8. The bumper fell off and the deer got up and walked away. My buddy threw the bumper onto his back seat and went on his way.

My wife (when she was a mere fiancee) hit a deer with her pickup truck. She saw one deer and was watching it and didn't see the other deer. She was only doing about 20MPH. The deer walked away and the truck had a broken headlight frame.

What have I hit... biggest thing was... I don't know. It was on interstate 5 between San Diego and the immigration checkpoint near San Onofre. It was about 1am or so and I was tired and zoned out. Whatever it was, it was still a large lump even though most of it was a huge smear. Woke me up when my Mustang went over it. It would have been a really large dog, a deer or a human. Hmmm, anyone familiar with that area knows about those signs indicating people crossing the freeway...

A friend of mine hit a raccoon, and it got wedged in the grill and broke the radiator.
The worst part was, my friend didn't realize the raccoon got wedged in - he htought he drove over it, so he drove an extra mile or two until the temperature gauge shot up.
He pulls over, gets out of the car - and sees this animal wedge in his grille, and the tail is still waving back and forth!!! Raccoon was still alive and slowly cooking :(

I hit either a small deer or a big dog on a highway in upstate NY at apout 3:00am while coming home from work in a bar. I was doing about 80mph in a 1974 Volvo
& all I heard was a thump & some unspeakable crunching noises as it passed underneath, didn't leave so much as a scratch & when I drove back around a few minutes later to try & see what I hit there was nothing but a huge red streak on the road. Nasty.
