congrats, when i was was a kid if you were depressed you just needed a good kick in the ass to get you going again. todays kids might as well be all females.

Yeah because all kids are like that.

cause ya know sometimes getting a foot in the ass corrects the chemical imbalances in the brain. It's a wonder doctors don't try that first before prescribing the drugs.

(ya I know not everyone on meds has an imbalance)

Some are worse than others. I was on paxil, which is notorious for being difficult to go off of. I was on a very low dose, and it took about 2-3 months to wean myself. Talk to your doctor. For some medications, they can temporarily prescribe you something that makes the withdrawls less severe. While I went off of them, I was dizzy, and anytime I turned my head felt an electric buzz go through it.

holy crap, you are such a freaking idiot. has it occured to you that you don't have depression/anxiety anymore...

(drum roll)

... BECAUSE YOU WERE TAKING YOUR MEDS?

second, there is no reason to stop cold turkey even if you don't want to take it anymore. you're setting yourself up to be uncomfortable and unhappy... which is exactly how you're feeling. surprise, surprise.

Yeah, and if you had an infection it was best to bleed out the bad spirits...what's your point?

I stopped taking meds cold turkey when I was much younger for my OCD. What followed was several horrible years of panic attacks and depression. I just had to learn what to avoid to prevent myself from having those attacks.
Which is why I hardly ever go out of my apartment other than work, as social situations are a big part of it.

thanks grandpa. now go finish your metamusil and get started on your morning bowel movement. the nurse will be over shortly to check on your prostate and adjust your meds.

Quitting cold turkey is not smart.

Your brain needs time to adjust to the absence of the medication. My mother-in-law tried getting off of her medication (Zoloft) by quitting cold-turkey. She felt "ok" for a week or two before WHAM-- she was suddenly in a deeper rut of depression than she was even before she was on medication.

That's the thing...in the very short term, you won't notice anything. A few days go by, and you'll start to drop a bit and start getting irritable, etc. (It appears you are now in this stage) Somewhere around day 4-5 up to a week or so, you will finally crash hard. THIS phase is what causes the people you hear about on the news, whether it is due to a homicidal incident or a suicide. If you are completely going off the meds by your choice and are going to do it w/o doctor help, you should begin lowering your dose by alternating days that you take the pill for a week, then go every 2 days, and then eventually stop completely.

Well you guys were right. I made an appointment with her and she recommended I continue on my prescribed dose until I see her. In fact, I was able to run home, make the appointment, take a pill, and whammo I feel totally ?normal? again.

Much much better. I guess I didn?t even know I felt as sh!tty as I did.

Maybe I will need these little orange devils for a bit longer...

Thanks again ATOT.

I was going to say that. I couldn't believe that he actually reasoned his way to such a conclusion.

You're welcome, but we need to get your insurance plan info...stop by the receptionist on your way out.

I had to quit cold turkey off paxil. The first couple days not so bad. Wait till the 7th and on and you start to see sh!t, dont know who you are, cry uncontrollably, halucinate, at times cant sleep other times you cant wake up, move your eyes and it feels like you get chills all over, piss yourself about 2-3 weeks into and if your lucky you wont crap your pants, thoughts of killing yourself and no one cares about you fill your head, in other words what your doing is said by many including me worse then going cold turkey off herioin and your in for atleast 1-2 months of pure hell.

Dont believe me just google going cold turkey off what ever your taking and read all the horror stories and what your in for if you dont want to hear it from me. Alot of members here 3 years ago know what I went through and saw what I went through and my family saw it first hand as well.

Celexa Withdrawal symptoms:
Anxiety
Dizziness
Fatigue
Headache
Insomnia
Tremors
Visual hallucinations
Diarrhea
Nausea
Vomiting
Restlessness
Blurred vision
Muscle and joint pain
Jolting electric "zaps?
Tingling sensations
Fever
Abdominal discomfort
Flu symptoms and general malaise
Anorexia, agitation
Vertigo
Gait disturbances
Sweating
Irritability
Aggression
Sleep disturbance and insomnia
Nightmares
Vivid dreams
Confusion
Memory and concentration difficulties
Chills and hot flashes
Crying spells
Suicidal thoughts
Lethargy
Weakness
Myalgia

One particularly disturbing antidepressant withdrawal symptom is hallucinations. While working through the physical and emotional effects of Celexa withdrawl symptoms, hallucinations can make the sufferer feel as if they are going crazy. You are not going crazy. You unwittingly became hooked on a drug that your doctor, by prescribing it, told you was okay.

All the fun stuff Paxil withdrawls give you and the page said you will get them no matter what strength your pills are. I would highly start taking them again and go to you doctor and ask to be weened off them correctly.

Taken from here.

I quit taking my anti-depressants a few days ago cold turkey. For those that haven?t been on them before it?s technically ?not a good idea? and you should ween yourself off them as advised by your doc. I?m on a very low dose of Celexa; 20 or 25mg I believe. I don?t have the bottle here with me so I don?t remember for certain.

I feel an odd electrical sensation through my body and I?m agitated at anything and everything, but other than that I don?t feel too bad.

The reason I stopped is 3 fold. It seems like I?ve been gaining weight since I?ve been on them since January, the sexual side effects suck, and finally, I don?t have anxiety/depression anymore.

Anyone else done this? Am I going to die?
bad idea. you're going to feel crappy for a couple of months.
