that made me think about smoking, but didn't give me a craving... strange...

If it gets bad get the low dose nicotine gum. Helps during the fist month a lot my BiL says.

Either that or the smokeless cigarettes.

Gum is probable cheaper and easier to get.

Instead of starting my own thread, thought I would share here.

I'm smoke free for 23 days. Granted, it took a hospitalization for me to get here, but the important thing is I haven't smoked since.

For the record, I had an aortic valve replacement in '99 and quit for 5 years. Moved halfway across the country due to work-related circumstances and started again. Wife had smoked the entire duration.

This time she quit with me. She's quit for a week and it's nice to have her support (by example) this time around.

edit: btw I was smoking 1 pack/day and started on 14mg/step 2 and have stuck with them since. It's working, don't plan on changing anything anytime soon. Wife is using nicotine gum.
GL to OP. It is NOT an impossible task. Difficult, but not impossible. All the best.

I drank 3 tall micro brews tonight...

I haven't craved that hard since i quit... holy hell it was bad... after going back to my friends house and chilling for an hour or so, I drove home... Every gas station was like a magnet, COME SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE... i chewed on a pen the entire way home... it helped... still have not smoked...

The last PUFF I had was saturday around 2pm from an old butt... have not touched one yet... It was bad at the bar looking outside and seeing everyone out there smoking...

damn, I'm glad I never got into that habit.

Smoking is an oral fixation. Sucking cocks can qualm that craving. I have your cure right here.

I have been smoke-free for 2 & half years. But now I'm addicted to sucking cocks.

I've been smoking about 2-4 cigarettes a day for the last 3 years. Never threatened to spiral out of control. Decided to cut on that too and now I'm down to just one rolled which is shared between me and wife (so 0.5 cigs/day in reality). I'd cut on that too but sadly the time smoking is a considerable part of our day together.

congragulation to the op, stay with it.

i quit myself too. it's been about 2 years. reasons were money and health.

I'm worried... Today has been too easy...

The only cravings I have gotten were when I smelled it... Had a small craving in the morning, but have not craved one for longer than like 5 seconds before I put it away... The prior days were full of 'holy shit i cant stop thinking about it' for like 5 minutes at a time.

Good luck.

<---Dad has it. Not pretty.

Keep it up. It does get easier and easier. I'm at ~600 days here. Very rarely do I even think about it. My wife still smokes and there WAS occasion where she smoked in our old vehicle while I was in there. Shit made me nautious. I told her no more of that.

It's been over a week... I have not bought a pack, or smoked a cig (sober) since... I have probably had like 4-6 cigs over the weekend while drunk, but That's much less than my normal 30-40 over a weekend...

Don't fall into that trap. Now that you have admitted to yourself that you are a nicotine addict, any introduction of nicotine will start the craving process over and make quitting for good all that more difficult.

I always like to imagine that I could have a nice cigar every now and then since I have been off cigarettes so long, but I really know better. Once i had one puff it would be a slippery slope back to a full fledged smoker.

I see how it is a slippery slope... but man, I really was not craving them like i used to, it was just what the group of people I was with was doing at the time... the first one i had over the weekend i literally took like 2 puffs and gave it back to my buddy because I could hardly smoke it...

I quit 3 years ago. It's a gradual healing process both mentally and physically. The mental part is overcoming not having that "relaxing" cigarette part of your life anymore. You realize that your life incircled around your addiction. That is going to take some time getting use to, but it usually peeks out around the 3-6 month range. Once you figure out smoking didn't do anything for you in the first place but make you feel like shit if you didn't have one, the better of you will be.

Just remember back when you first started smoking and how it made you gag and smell like crap. And how stupid you were to continue it before it came apart of your life.
