I QUIT SMOKING!!!

I haven't smoked in 48 hours now. Before that I smoked 1 pack per day for the last 10 years. I'm dying here. I'm taking zyban (sp?) to help with the cravings, but I still get craving flashes.

Werthers and gummi companies are making a fortune off me.

Anyone else that can share their experience of quitting? Also, what helped you get through the first few days/weeks?

Updates
Day 1: Ate tons of gummi bears - didn't smoke
Day 2: Ate tons of Werthers originals - didn't smoke but Really wanted to
Day 3: Haven't craved a smoke yet today. Eating life savers so far.

2 days and you'll be back. Don't even kid yourself. You know you want a drag right about now. Do it.

whoa I wouldn't go cold turkey like that. I would try cutting down first...maybe to 3-4 a day. You don't want your body to do anything crazy now, would you? 😉

everytime i had a craving i chewed some gum. that helped, until i was virtually cravingless. Although i still cant help smoking if i've been drinking.

You will save money now and not stink, its such a useless addiction. I wish that the people who smoke over at my job (90% of the people who work here smoke!) would realize that too.

My calculations:

$5.00 per day (pack of smokes where I live)

1 day = $5.00
1 Week = $35.00
1 Month = $150.00 (at 30 days)
1 Year = $1825.00

New toys for me!

I ate alot when I quit smoking. Alot of straight up junk food helped me tremendously. Luckily I am one of those people who doesnt gain weight no matter how much I eat😀

I used the patch *shrug*. It gets easier every day, just remind yourself how much money you're saving and how much healthier you're getting.

I have talked to someone trying to quit (never started myself) and he was saying lifesavers help out. He told me that being able to suck air through the center hole helps with the psychological aspect of it. Dunno, but it would only cost a buck and a half to try it out. Good luck!

Good for you! I quit a few years ago after smoking 15+ years 2+ packs a day.

My inspiration was, and still is, watching my mother slowly and painfully die of COPD and emphysema.

My roomate is like that, but then again he does not eat much anyways to begin with. Same with my guitarists.

I tried with the pill but it didn't work for me. I quit with the gum. Chew a piece whenever you crave it. Works like a charm. I used the gum for a week and quit that too. I still want one everyonce and a while but it goes away. I can even be in a smoke filled bar and not even think about it.

I now begin Day 3. Wish me luck today! I am equipped with life savers today per the suggestion above.

The nicotine is almost out of your system. From there, it's all psychological. Stay strong, and drink beer. 🙂

sounds like maybe instead of your body wanting the nicotine... it may just be that you are used to putting something in your mouth....

Im sure there is at least 1 person that would be willing to come over.... ROFL

I was a smoker for 15 years and finally made up my mind to quit about 3 years ago. Haven't smoked a cigarette since 01/17/02.

What really helped me a lot was reading this page and this page whenever I'd get an urge to smoke. Good luck!

EDIT: Looks like you have to register to view the Wall of Rememebrance now. I highly recommend doing it though! It will definitely help you get through the cravings..
