I quit smoking!

A few years ago, I was a 2 pack a day smoker. I quit for about 6 months. Then I thought I could handle social smoking, and slowly grew to half a pack a day again... Argh!

I finally got my first chest cold in years, and stopped smoking again. Most of my smoking buddies have quit, so the timing couldn't have been better.

I just had my first child (Juliette) and I have been trying to cut back/quit since she had been born.

But, I have to admit, I'm glad I got this cold. It gave me the chance to break away!

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm 5 days clean right now... So, I'm over the worst of it...

Congrats man!

I started smoking a little bit when I moved down to Southern California and realized that the only difference between smoking and chewing (my previous vice) was that I smelled bad and my lungs were worse off. Last time I smoked a cigarette was New Year's Eve. I wasn't trying to quit either, I was just a social smoker and haven't had a reason to smoke since.

I'm sure your daughter will appreciate your being around longer as a result.

If you're anything like me, stay away from alcohol.

It's easy enough to quit tobacco when you're sober and doing other activities. Things change drastically when you crack open a few beers with friends and some of them are chewing or smoking.

Depends on your personality... I've always been able to say "ok I'm quitting" and just put them down for years at at time, only to pick them back up a few years later, but it didn't bother me either way

my wife always had a HORRIBLE time quitting, always worried about me catching her "slipping up" when that wasn't the case at all. Easiest thing for me to do was say "OK I'm quitting for now, but that doesn't mean I'm never going to smoke again!"

Made it real easy when I found a cigar or 2 that was given to me to just go take a few puffs off of and put them out, I didn't have that whole "I WILL NOT SMOKE AGAIN!" ideal going. A man has to know his limits!

Wow, I'm so glad that I've never put a cigarette in my lips.

edit: which is funny, I've smoked pot, but it doesn't seem to have the same effect as cigarette's do.

still getting nicotine...probably will make it harder to keep away from cigs if he keeps introducing nicotine in to his system.

Congrats on the quit

Good Job! I'm 10 days off of any nicotine myself. Decided to quit doing chew before it got the better of me.

In order to preserve the balance in the world, I will now have to take up smoking. If I die, it'll be all your fault. :|

It's been over two years since my last smoke!

If you think you can't quit, you can! Trust me, the hook was in DEEP for me.

Kick those smokes!

I'm at 5 months now. I have read once you pass the two year mark, as the OP has, that your chances of staying a non-smoker go up considerably.

Keep strong! Look at that little sweet daughter of yours as incentive every day.
Also, love the name Juliette. I had a patient today named Jillienne. Love that name too.

It's getting close to 3 years since I have smoked. I still miss it, but I don't miss how those things controlled my life.
