I don't know what the market is like in your area, but you have to ask yourself how much you wanted the house and what you are willing to pay for it before making an offer.

It is a little late now, but what you can do is walk away from the deal if there is any indication of things that you are not willing to live with.

How is this house compare to other houses that you have looked at this price in the same general area?

It is doesn't matter what the market is like at the present, because it is your money that they want therefore you are in the driver seat. And, make your offer base on your needs, want, and budget.

Zillow estimates are grossly inaccurate. They do have 10 years worth of sales data though, so that can give you a pretty good idea of what people are paying.

If you actually live in Florida you shouldn't even consider buying right now. Foreclosures are way up and people there are renting places out for cheap because they are desperate. You can rent a great place there for a fraction of what it costs to own. The Florida market is going nowhere but down for now.

After you offered $330K they said "no, we refuse. We want $5k less."

In other words, don't eat the paint chips in your new house. They're full of lead.

Desperation from the seller probably.

I put in an offer on a house? wonder if they will take it?

If not I will, need my paypal addy or just want to do a wire transfer?

Considering how overvalued the market is in general I think you offered a bit too much. If you are planning on holding onto the property as a long term investment it will offset your "loss" eventually. Hope you enjoy your new home, see you at the house warming party...

hope this helps..

We will see..

Time passes----3 months fast forward
We went back and offered 5k less then we did 3 months before.
When we put the first offer in on the house it had only been on the market for one week.
So yes he took 5k

Update: 325k is where it has landed they took the offer

Yeah, you did kind of leave out the entire "Time passes----3 months fast forward
We went back and offered 5k less then we did 3 months before" part. Makes sense now. Congrats on your purchase. Hope you enjoy it for many years.

Congrats on the new home. Your first?

I'm currently looking at a house that they are asking $684,900. They started at $714,900 75 days ago. I holding at $625k. The market in NJ isn't as bad as in other areas but I'm hopeful.

We had looked at a house across the street that was a bit smaller (it didn't have a family room in the first floor) but had a finished basement as opposed to this one that has an unfinished basement. That one they were asking $624 after 100+ days and sold for 600K. I like the community there and there are a few houses that come up for sale there. Thing though is that it's on a hill and most of the lots aren't level. This one is relatively level since it's on the top of the hill. Also it's at a cul-de-sac though it lacks much of a backyard.
