1 hour? Way too long

I put them in cold water, turn up the heat and once the water boils, set the heat to low for 20 minutes. Done.

An hour? Are you on crack? Boil some water, place eggs inside and cover pot for 13 minutes. Take out and place in an ice bath for 1-2 minutes. Easy hard-boiled egg.

Put in a dozen eggs. Take one out each minute until you find one that's done. Count the number of eggs still in the pot and subtract it from 12 and you now have the number of minutes it takes to hard boil an egg.

13 mins may be cutting it too short and may produce half/soft boiled eggs (hard whites with deliciously chewy yolks).

While that is tasty in itself, if you want it full boiled, do a nice 20 mins.
