I pumped gas last night.

I spent some time in NJ a couple years ago. Every gas station had a line. Service was much slower. Plus a tip was expected, raising the price of the fuel.

Just silly, imo.

I guess people in NJ are just used to the wait, whereas the rest of us are used to a fast reset and back on the road.

I never tip them when I go through NJ. If I had the option to pump myself but chose full-serve, then I would tip, but they don't give me the option, so no tip.

I seriously doubt that would ever happen in NJ.

Summer is our busy season and $15 an hour would hurt a lot of businesses.
I don't believe that for a second. We have a couple of Seneca Indian reservations in my area. On rare occasion, I'll get gas there - it's cheaper. I've met a couple people who work there - and they do pay in the neighborhood of $15, or more, per hour for people to pump gas. Let's go with a low estimate of 300 gallons pumped per hour. To increase someone's pay from $9/hr to $15/hr, that six dollars would be spread over that 300 gallons. That works out to a 2 cent per gallon increase. And, not just coincidentally, at the closest reservation gas station, they have self-service and full-service. The full-service is.... 2 cents more per gallon. What amazes me though is the line of 10 cars waiting for self-service, while there's never more than 1 or 2 for the full service. I'd go there a lot more often, but they don't have non-ethanol gas.

Another reason to burn wood at 4am (just thought of this yesterday, because it looks like the neighbors down the road are doing this): you have an outdoor boiler, and have piped your swimming pool water through the boiler to heat your pool. One of my friends used to do this - swimming in 95 degree pool water when it was below freezing outside.

That was in response to Ns1 as he (and I) live in LA where a $15 min wage was recently approved...

Speaking of pumping gas there's a gas station here that has a self serve Tim Hortons that I've been going to lately and always get a coffee too. Never knew that was even a thing till they opened that up. You pump your gas, go inside to pay for gas and whatever coffee/drink you tell them you'll take, then go self serve your own coffee that you paid for. Guess if you're not going to gas and dash over $60 of gas chances are you wont do it over a $2 coffee either, so not a bad idea really. :p
