I've been salivating over the Epson Perfection 3170, but I'd be damned if I was gonna pay retail. Who the hell does that anymore?

So I waited, and waited, and nary a deal.

This week, it went on sale at Best Buy for full price ($199) plus a mail-in for a $40 gift card. Whooop-dee-doo.

But what be this? An open-box Perfection 3170? But it's only marked down $20!!!

I grab one of the employees I'm in good with. "What can you do for me on this?"

He checks his employee price. $173. This is all of $7 cheaper than I can get it online. "This won't do," he says with a twinkle in his eye.

"Oh?"

"No, no, no. This price is far too high."

He grabs a custom product order form, and writes it out. "I'm gonna take the $40 gift card that you can't get, since this is open box, right off the price."

$139. Out the door.

He rung me up, and as always happens when you ring up an item with a mail-in, the form printed out. We looked it over. "Required: Copy of reciept. This form. Copy of UPC."

COPY of UPC. He looks at it and snickers, hands me the form, and I hurry and run over to the scanner aisle. I grab one of the boxes, run over to the multi-function printers, and quickly copy its UPC.

Sooooo.....

Retail: $199
Open Box: $179

My price: $139 + a $40 gift card.

I rule.

erm. you mean their rebate. and no, all UPCs on a particular model are the same. sorry to burst your bubble, but MachFive still isn't right. :)

*edit*
but upon a second go-over, I'm in all likelihood wrong. score!

I don't do graphic design for nothing...

By the time I'm done with that UPC/serial number sheet, it will have MY serial number on it. It doesn't matter either way, because I doubt the Best Buy MIR contract house looks at serial numbers. And if they do, they'll see mine, so no biggie.

Dollars I save: $100
Dollars some poor schmoe is out: $0.
Dollars Epson is out: $0
Screwing over Best Buy: PRICELESS
