I propose that any politician...

That votes against free, basic healthcare for everyone should automatically have their free, basic healthcare paid for by the people that they are denying the same benefit revoked.

And with it, all of the free clinics (appropriately called the Office of the Attending Physician) that are in federal government buildings that they can just walk into at any time without paying a dime should be closed and their $3M+ annual budget be reallocated to something that can actually show a positive benefit to society and not be used to further support the hypocrisy of a group that says healthcare is something that should be bought by the public while the reap the benefits of having those same people that can't afford to do that, pay for theirs.

Fine, I propose that anyone in favor of free, basic healthcare be forced to work 40 hours a week. Don't have a job? No problem, we will give you a shovel, a broom, a mop, a trash bag and put you right to work. Those people should actually show a positive benefit to society and not be used to further support the hypocrisy of a group that says healthcare is something that should be given, free to all, with nothing in return while being able to sit on one's ass and have other people, who do work 40 hours a week, pay for theirs.

And I propose that those same politicians should have to work 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year and that fancy dinners and junkets to play golf at country clubs do not in any way count as "work".

Campaigning for re-election and attending fund raisers do not count as work either. Your job is to help create legislation to better society and not to suck at the tits of the rich that you will have to become subserveant to so that you can do the same thing a year and a half later.

You can do that on your own time, Congressman/Senator.

You fight the power! Force politicians to pay for their own healthcare from their own salary taken from taxes! No way will they ever again get free healthcare paid for through taxes!

Oh wait... that is the dumbest thing I've read in a LOOOOOOONG time...

Personally, I think the fact that you are not only willing to, but against fighting to not be double dipped on by the politicians should be the dumbest thing that you've read in a LOOOOOONG time.

So in other words, you think I'm dumb for paying for health care from my salary - instead of your preferred method of having my health care paid for by taxes on my salary?

Please enlighten me, I'm having difficulty figuring out where this "free" aspect you speak of exists

Of course, you have a salary. What about those that don't? Derp.

WTH are you talking about?

I'm saying that you are dumb for thinking that it's okay for lawmakers who are already getting paid by your taxes and mine to not have to put some of that money back into the system via paying for medical services with that money instead of giving them it AND paying for their healthcare on top of it.

They should be forced to do one or the other (take a pay cut and get additional benefits or keep your pay but pay a higher portion of your healthcare costs) just like the majority of us are forced to do.

So in other words, your ultimate gripe is solely about politician salaries? And not about free health care?

I will support your stance that politicians make too much money.

But, all you need to do is leave it at that.

Not to mention, last time I checked, "those same people that can't afford to do that", don't pay for theirs.

How about that they keep what they have BUT can't take any lobby money at all and can't work for anyone or be compensated in any way by any industry or group for which they've sponsored favorable legislation for let's say 10 years after leaving office. That's going to hurt a whole lot more.

Being a congressmen is suppose to be a respected position and should be compensated as such.

I would support that 100%. And I would also add that no member of your immediate family is able to either.

Gone would be the days of a Congressperson's spouse getting a 7 figure board seat for a company that they barely can pronounce the name of let alone have any real working knowledge of their day to day business operations.

True, but they are also a public servant and their motives to be in that position should be to serve. Getting wealthy or looking for fringe benefits should not be the reason to seek such a position.

Yep. Immediate family.

We hold our office holders to such a low standard then expect them to act in our interests instead of their own. If that isn't crazy nothing is.

The position is certainly worthy of respect however those who hold the office too often are not.

It is compensated as such. That is the exact reason that they don't need an additional benefit like free healtcare on top of their $162,000 salary.

The masses are all expected to pay for their healtcare by a very vocal group of these people while they refuse to do the same.

Mmmm well if were going down this path lets take away tax incentives for employer sponsored health plans.

Bye bye private health care insurance industry!

In other news, taxes are used to feed politicians. I strongly feel that politicians should not be allowed to eat unless they vote for free food for the entire population.

That'll learn 'em.

Nah, food is too cruel to take away.

We'll say...

My taxes go towards paying the wardrobes of politicians. Therefore, unless politicians vote for free clothes for me, they must be forbidden from wearing clothing.
