With everything that's been happening in the world over the last several months, I've noticed that the coverage provided by the BBC is far more extensive than CNN.

Why is that?

I believe that part of the reason is because CNN is actually entertainment marketed by AOL-TimeWarner largely toward the American audience. Most of the news organizations in the US are controlled by media conglomerates, and as such will dumb-down the information content so that Joe Six-pack in Alabama (who can't even pronounce "Afghanistan", let alone care about it) will watch it. The CNN website certainly reflects this.

Ooooo - BBC! Totally agree though, they've got the tradition.

And don't forget BBC World Service ("News from the Colonies").

I lie awake just waiting for that voice on the radio: "THIS is London".

BBC covers international news very well. CNN is definately no competition for the coverage quality BBC provides. Hell I remember seeing reporters in the Gaza strip wearing bulletproof vests and going right to where the fighting was taking place.

Reuters, the NY Times, the BBC and NPR are in a whole different league that CNN and other local news programs.

Yea CNN is bubblevision. Those stupid web polls on their site really reflect this; I've seen more scientific polls here in this forum!!

Oh yeah and I forgot about

<< America's New War >>

updates constantly appearing. People have died and they are making a killing because of the ratings.
