i plugged my USB device in before installing drivers

i plugged the controller in, thinking windows would detect it (microsoft and all), but it asked for drivers.

so i went to microsoft.com and found the drivers.

the installer says "install these before you plug the device in!"

wow. thanks.

so i went to device manager, 'uninstalled the device', unplugged the controller. plugged it back in... bleh.

how do i get back to a 'virgin state' again?

i've tried plugging it in different ports, and tried pointing the driver window to the folder where the app installs, but apparently there are no inf files there... any help?
