Really, really strange in my opinion. Soon as I turn up resolution beyond 800x600, slows way down.

Why is this? HL2 ran practically perfectly.

edit: hl2; haven't run episode 2 yet.

episode 1 ran well IIRC. Ep 2 better not be like portal.

You have received 43 views and 0 replies to your thread as of this writing.

I think the reason for this is that your message makes almost no sense. I`m not sure what your problem is, and I have reread your message a few times. I`m not trying to be rude, but I imagine you`re going to need to rewrite your message if you want to get any serious help.

The current Source engine has been updated with more features and capabilities since HL2. I can guarantee you if you try Episode 1 or 2, you'll get lower framerates than the original HL2.

HL2 is how old now? Portal has HDR and other nifty things added.

Like he said.

HL2: Ep 1 had HDR, and if I turn EVERYTHING down to minimum, portal still runs horribly at anything not 800x600.

Oh well, I beat it last night I guess it doesn't matter :p

well depends on the sempron, not all were 64-bit like the Athlons.

If it was the CPU it would be running slow at all resolutions, not just at 1024x768 and higher.

This is clearly a GPU limitation; upgrade your drivers and if that doesn't work you may need to upgrade your video card.

Sorry not trolling,
it runs fine beyond the odd disc access delay as the autosave goes off mid-level. the settings are a mix of mostly high and some medium. I am running an older video driver(pre-vista whql 93.x something.) the latest 16x.xx divers are usually to fix vista issues and end up screwing up my lcd display. you may need to downgrade your drivers, lol.

Maybe he's running a different driver to you. Did you update yours like I suggested?

In either case like I said earlier what is happening to you is a video card issue; if it was a CPU problem you'd get slow performance at all resolutions.
