I played goalie today in soocer!

It was pretty fun, I'm not that good at it but I then whenever the team has scrimmages or practices from now on I'll give it a shot because we rely on one goalie and if hes ever gone, we're screwed. Thats all I have to say, but it sure was interesting.

I played goalie in all they way through highschool. I was actually a starting striker in HS, but when my coach saw me screwing around one day before practice in goal, she started me as goalie.

I played a lot of goalie. Be ready for a lot of bruises. 😀 Decent gloves are key if you value your hands. Shorts with pads on the sides are nice too.

Yeah, right now its only practices but if he actually wants me to play in a game, I'll get gloves or something. I'm not real big either so I would just be a backup goalie.

played goalie for like 8-10 years, was county all-star.... its the most fun cause its the only posistion where u get to literally throw yourself through the air

lol no cheerleading is not a real sport, and im pretty sure that the majority of the world would disagree with you that soccer is a sport

Nice, I've barely played goalie. I was the top defence man, but the minute they try putting me in goal, everything goes wrong! 😀

Yeah, I usually play defense but the goalie is a good friend of mine and he really only plays that so I wanted to get him out of goal for some time, I think I actually like it now that I've tried it. Coach even asked if I want to start next game this weekend as goalie, I told him no way, hehe, not yet atleast 🙂

And a person with almost 40,000 posts is someone to believe.

bah. your goalie ass would be dead without Defense. Stopper/Sweeper is where its at!

That being said, if your defense is not talking, yell at them. If they are, yell at them more. talking and giving directions is key back there, because you see everything.

Her209 and ElFenix...got nothing better to do tonight than to try to rip on the most played sport in the world?

soccer is like the sport where the most fit athletes are. they have to run around on a field for 90 mins continously except halftime. they have like the most stamina out of all athletes, maybe except the long distance runners.

And the refs. The average ref runs something like 5 miles per game.

i consider ernest hemingway a drunk!

soccer is the greatest sport on the face of the earth. it requires endurance, speed, quickness, patience, quick thinking and great vision. the only sport that combines these is basketball, but in basketball you can get by with a couple of ogres that cant move and still win games, any weak link on a soccer team will be exploited throughout the game. i played soccer since i was four and have lost no love or appreciation for the game.

shameless pitch: UCLA for back-to-back ncaa soccer champs!

If I remember football (soccer for some) is second only to cross country skiing for stamina requirements. The average defender can run for about 8 miles a game, midfielder 15-20 miles, and striker 12-15 miles........oh and the goalie 1/2 mile tops lol! It's not just the distance, it's the fact they are always moving and then suddenly go into a sprint, then back to a jog, which is allot harder than a straight 20 mile jog.

IMO, goalkeeper is the hardest position to play since there are so many things that you have to be aware of and if everyone else gets burned, you're still expected to make a save. But that's what makes it so much fun. (and if you can't tell, I am a keeper 😀 )

I found that the gloves didn't protect my hands a whole lot. They really can only kept my hands from stinging after catching a hard shot. If the shot is hard enough, it will break your finger/hand whether you have gloves on or not. But if you get a nice pair of gloves, you can get a ridiculously good grip on the ball. I have a pair of Uhlsport ASG gloves and I will never use a different model glove. The grip on them is so good that if I put a soccer ball in the palm of the glove and turn my hand upside down, it will stay on my palm for a few seconds before dropping to the ground. As far as the padded shorts, I haven't seen/worn a pair that have had decent padding in them. In fact, I wore a pair of padded spandex under my team shorts instead as they have better and thicker padding than the shorts.
