I plan to buy a high-end card, should I go for GF Ti4600 or wait?

Maybe it's best to wait for the DirectX 9 supported cards. What do you think? I'm going to use it for high-end gaming.

ATi is coming out with a new card within supposedly, two months.

Nvidia, this Fall/Winter.

Personally, I would wait. At least till ATi comes out with there card. If those don't statisfy you, Nvidia's offering later this year might.

Whats you're current Videocard? Is it enough to play what you want now? If so, why upgrade now? If not, are you able to wait?

Its all in your own patience...

Oh yes, Welcome to Anandtech BBS.

Haha, I feel so horrible, shameless recruiting :), but If you are interested, you may want to join one of your Distribiutive Computing groups :)

OK, thanks. :)
I have a GeForce 2 Pro 64 MB. While it will manage UT2003, Thief 3 and so on it won't do very well.
I'll probably have to go with 800x600 with medium details at max. Buying a Ti 4600 would eliminate that problem
but it would be a bad investment. I think I'll wait for ATI's and nVidia's next generation cards to come out, then I'll see what's
the best.
Thanks for the tip. :)

I say buy the Ti4600 now and be happy.

If not, this might me be you:

- A month or so has gone by....
- ATI's new cards are out and they are great
- Perhaps I should wait till Nvidia's new cards are out, just to make sure
- Hey! Nvidia's new cards are great!
- Hey...I just heard ATI is coming out with a new card...perhaps I will wait.
- Wow, ATI's cards are even better.

and so on....

I also see no need to get a DX9 card - most games these days don't even use DX8 yet; it'll be quite awhile before anything uses DX9. Plus, the upcoming cards that will support it will be first generation - they'll probably be able to run it, but not neccessarily at high framerates too.

Just in case, which Ti 4600 is the best?
Gainward's card (750 XP or something, but it's a Ti 4600) won the test race against the others...

I have just recently been in the same position as you and I decided to bite the bullet and go for a Ti4600. I had a Geforce 2 Ultra and let me tell you the Ti4600 spanks it so hard it's not even funny

I say if you feel your Pro is too slow and you are ready to go for something you might as well do so.

Well, it's OK now, but I'm an Unreal Tournament fan and when UT2003 comes out I want to be able to run it
excellent, not just allright. I'm just afraid that once I buy it, something better will come. Yes, I know, it's always like that.
But DirectX 9 is gonna come out someday, and when it does, it could render the Ti4600 obsolete to an extent.
And I wouldn't want that to happen with a new graphics card. Although, if the Ti4600 will last long enough I might get it.
Or what about the Parhelia?

i say wait... UNLESS you are playing a game *RIGHT NOW* that is unbearable and you need to upgrade. Otherwise, just sit tight and wait for the next generation of video cards to come out!

(I too am waiting, hopefully the next generation will drive down the ATi8500 AIW 128mb so I can throw it into my HT comp! Well, as soon as the SS51/SS41 comes out...) ;)

I also say wait if you can, if your current card can get you by now, then wait. I always say buy what you need at the time, thats just my 0.02$

Or..... get a Ti4200 now (64 or 128 depending on your budget) and when they come out with a cheaper DX9 card upgrade to that.

Grab a 4200 or a Radeon 8500 now if you want instant gratification and a superb card....or, wait until ATI comes out with their new card (which I have heard is due this month) and grab a 4600 when Nvidia drops their prices. They WILL drop their prices if the new Radeon is anywhere close to their cards, and I've seen articles saying that they would even put the 4600 to shame.

I have a GF 2 Ultra 64meg card. My thinking is to pick up either a GF4, 4400 or 4600 is about 6 weeks. This will put us close to the next Nvidia refresh which may be a GF 4 Ultra version. Prices will then be dropping on these cards and they will still be good for a long time I think on the right system.

I'm building my new system soon, I'm waiting. EIther the new ATI card will be great, or the 4600 will be cheaper.
