 I liked that episode where they hooked up the donated Caddy to a crane and dropped it from 60+ feet to test out Buster 2.0.

i donated a car once. they came and got it. i didnt even need to abandon it. come on man, use your head.

That was an asshole thing to do. You're basically forcing a charity to take care of disposing of your car because you don't want to deal with it.

What will happen is the towing company that will get called to tow it will eventually end up getting it as an abandoned vehicle after whatever the time period is in your state. Most of them have to jump through a lot of legal hoops, but they'll eventually get the title after a few months and they'll sell it at an auction or to a used car lot for a couple hundred dollars.

It won't go towards Goodwill.

You can expect a couple of certified letters from the tow company though. If you don't answer them, the car will be theirs.

The car is going to be driven to a local Pick-A-Part and sold for $200, which will either go towards paying for a new couch for my apartment or St. Vincent de Paul charities... depends on how this month goes.

I'm not an asshole. 🙂

Hmmm... given the *very* high value of scrap metal these days, why don't you get all of the copper and aluminum out of the thing that you can, THEN take it to the junkyard (where they should also pay you for the vehicle.)

Or, if it's a common enough vehicle, part it out and sell the parts on ebay 🙂

if he doesnt possess the title for this car, how would he get any notices in the mail about tow and storage fees??

I donated a 1987 Chevy truck with out of state plates to Cars for Causes in California, and it was pretty easy. I wasn't even home at the time. I left it unlocked with the key under the floor mat and the title in the glove box. They left a receipt on my door.

I talked to the junk yard. They wanted me to pay them to take the truck. WTF??

How evil are you? Give it to a poor person, then call the cops and report it stolen.

You do realize that once the "perp" is caught and the car recovered, the police will return the car to him....
