I paid $600 for a 4-head HI-FI VCR....

I've been going through my receipts looking for tax deductions.

I also found the receipt for a Pentium I 133mhz computer I bought in '95 that I paid $2700 for.

Too bad I couldn't deduct this stuff. 😉

I remember those prices. At the time, I paid $500 for just an Intel Pentium 100 MHz CPU - that was before the $299 Asus motherboard. Now, I agonize over whether to spend $150 and get an ATI 9600 video board.

Heh. My parents paid $1600 for one of the first VHS camcorders some time in the Mid-80's. One of those big suckers that rivaled the size of camera crew cameras.

Kind of like the first cellular phones that had those little bags you had to carry around with you. The phones themselves were as big as bricks.

Those old VCRs were built like freaking tanks man. All the new ones weight like 2-3 pound compared to the 10-15 of old ones. They don't last nearly as long either.

Actually, I think that if you donate the stuff, you get to write off the original purchase price, not the current market value. I would check with a tax attorney before you believe me though. I just remember something like that being posted over on fat wallet. I forget if it was ever debunked.
