I think it was such a release of joy and relief that there were no reasons for (there rarely ever is) riots or violence. The US population appears to have had a great burden removed from their overworked and under appreciated backs.

People are being prosecuted for crimes 30 years old where the only evidence is some remnant of a hair left at the scene. People are being prosecuted on video evidence during riots where previously you might have been able to act anonymously in a crowd.

They know that the majority of the people that voted are alert to their skulduggery and if they intend to perpetrate a crime they better act in a manner to completely insulate themselves. Not an easy task. Sometimes knowing that Big Brother is watching is a good thing.

I expect that we might see some stuff along the lines of what happens when the home town team wins the Super Bowl, World Series or NBA title.

alien42, from what you said it appears that you don't think a recount is needed if one side wins by a landslide. If "every vote counts", it shouldn't matter if someone won by a landslide, or if it was close. If that's not what you meant then I apologize, but that's what it looked like to me.
