My proc/heat sink frame is Socket 939 Athlon 64 X2. Now, the Maximum PC review says the only ones who need to remove their mobo and replace the frame are those who have LGA 775 socket PCs. But the Thermaltake online installation flash just plain shows removing the frame.

It won't be here until Tuesday or Wednesday, so I don't have the full instructions. Mobo is Gigabyte GA-K8N SLI. So, will I have to take everything apart and redo it, or is it an easier installation for those of us not using LGA 775?

Also, I'm putting some thermal paste on the proc, for obvious reasons, but the stock cooler had its little thermal pad there. Will I need to clean off residue, or should it be okay?

Oh, and is it possible to take the stock cooler's fan and commandeer it for a case fan?

Well, that's two things answered: yours, and I spent some instructive time finding out that i have to remove the mobo to install the backplate to install the cooler. Oy vey.

it's a hassle to remove a MB and go threw the whole process, but like Galvanized Youth said, you want to. I bought the TT Beetle, I didn't really want remove my MB, but it wouldn't mount to the plastic one that came with (holes size was off or something) I'm glad I spent the extra 30 minutes to pull it all apart and use the metal plate. My heatsink is heavy, I think yours is even more heavy. You might be able to get away with using the plastic plate that came with your MB, but that could result in your cooler crashing threw your video card.

story moral: don't be lazy like me. I'm sure if I had gotten my Beetle to mount with the plastic one, I'd be out an x800 right now.

Clean off the heat pad crap off, and do u have the little card thingy at the top of your board that allows 6 phase power? If u do, it needs to go for this cooler.

Damn I stand corrected on the weight difference, this sink is a lot shorter which I'm sure is easier on the socket. my beetle is tall, comes like 1/2 an inch from touching the 80mm fan on my Tsunami's side panel. This Orb looks pretty good I might have to check into it.
