What is the purpose of this lens?

From the samples, it just looks like it blurs the corners.

what you're talking about is called 'vignetting'

you guys dont know the history of holga's?? awww.. read about it below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holga

Its a cheap chinese made knockoff medium format film cameras. Each holga has a different picture capable. Its a very simple camera, NO electronics, no settings, there is no focus perse, you can guess and shoot. But what it does do is give a warmth and character to pictures.. holgas are known for light leaking into the body, and hence you never know what you are going to get in the end of it when you do print it. My getting the holga lens for the EOS is just modernizing it. My friend has a couple of Holga's, they cost about 20 bucks each on amazon.

Interesting...

In the samples that I saw, there was no vignetting - well the "vignette" was a blurred portion instead of black how you usually see vignetting.

It seems this would appeal to those interested in lomography, which I am not so :p

nifty. looks like it both blurs the corners and has 1.5 stops of vignetting. it has its uses, I suppose.

you need to find some way to leak light into the body of the camera. maybe some fine holes in the body cap glued to the holga lens.
