I ordered a ASRock z77 Extreme4 but received - Intel Extreme BOXDZ77GA70K

I called Best Buy with a question about cell phones. After the guy answered my questions I got the standard question – is there anything else I can help you with?

I thought for a moment and decided to ask about their price match policy. I asked if they would match Micro Center’s prices. He said yes if there was one in my area. I said yes there is. He said OK - what are the item/prices.

The i7 3770k processor for $229.99. He said yes he could price match.
What’s the next item.
The ASRock z77 Extreme4 for $94.99 when combo’d with the above processor. He said yes he could price match.

He read back the items and said “Intel - Extreme Series motherboard”. I said no wait I wanted the “ASRock z77 Extreme4”. He said OK I fixed it. So I placed the order. 6% tax (BB or MC) free shipping with no travel with BB. Micro Center is about a 5 hour round trip.

The motherboard I received is the Intel - Extreme Series BOXDZ77GA70K.

There seems to be mixed opinions on this board. I’m not an experienced overclocker but will probably do a little. I really wanted the ASRock board as there are a lot of others here that I could draw knowledge from.

What do you think? Should I keep it? Is the Intel a better/just as good of a board?

I'd say you got lucky on that one. The Extreme4 is a budget board, while the intel is fairly high end. Definitely keep it!

Well if your not into overclocking then the Intel board would be a keeper as long as your receipt shows the correct motherboard for warranty purposes.

It does look like you'll have the option to overclock with it anyways...Dependent on how high you want to push your chip.

I would of been disappointed when I opened the package....But once I came to my senses I'd end up keeping it. You can't push the Ivy's too high anyways because of the extreme heat they generate.

Thanks for the replies. The receipt shows the Intel board. I’ve been looking around and it looks like I got quite a nice price break on the combo. I think I’ll be quite happy with this board. Can’t wait to get all parts here and assembled.

I also got two of these “Extreme Edition Intel Beanie - Skull Design” - one with the motherboard and one with the CPU.
So... I got that go-en for me...

You can't push the Ivy's too high anyways because of the extreme heat they generate.

ivybridge generates less heat than sandybridge if i remember correctly. It just can't dissipate the heat as well, since intel cheaped out on the thermal conduit between the cpu and the heat-spreader (solder -> too much cheapo thermal goop)

several people have had success delidding their cpus, though it's more work than most people would bother with.
