Remember when you were a kid and there was always that really lame kid who would suggest things then bitch out after everyone else agreed to the idea? He would say things like "let's climb on top of the school" and we would agree that sounds like fun, then he would make up some excuse why he can't do it or doesn't want to get in trouble. He didn't suggest things he wanted to do, but suggest things just for the sake of suggesting things.

To avoid looking like that bitch, it's always my policy that I only throw out an idea I would actually do. It doesn't matter if it's a joke or serious, even if it's something I don't really want to do. I'll give an example. Last weekend I was at some live music thing with a group of friends. It was me, my gf, a female friend, and 3 male friends. I sent a text to my female friend. "forget going to the bar after. let's all go back to your place and bang the hell out of you." She elbowed me in the ribs and laughed. I just wanted to get a laugh out of her, but I would go along with the idea if she called me on it.

Does anyone else play by the same rule or do you guys throw out crazy ideas that you would never actually do?

I'm drawing a blank on a time when someone threw out an idea and then backed down. Don't people generally go through with it? Your gang bang idea is probably not a great example since there was virtually no chance she was going to accept. Throwing out an idea that like "Lets base jump off the Empire State Building" while sitting in Topeka isn't exactly the same as "Hey, lets all go skinny dipping"

I was the guy who would say, "Too bad there's no way to <insert foolish thing to do> without getting in trouble." I guess I had a knack for thinking of interesting foolish things.

Most times one of the guys would insist it COULD be done without getting into trouble, maybe others would agree. Sometimes they would decide to do it. I never did, because I did not want to get into trouble.

IIRC what finally stopped people in the group from picking up on my comments was the day they pushed a shopping cart down a 200-foot sloped parking lot and it smashed right into the side of a car driving by. They intended to run it into the parking barrier at the bottom of the parking lot but it drifted off course and went right out the exit of the parking lot into the street.

pics of female friend?
No deal. You can have nude photos of me if you want.

Thinking that it would never happen is what leads people to backing down. That lame kid suggesting things like skateboarding down a steep hill didn't think any of his friends would say yes, but they did. When you throw out other crazy ideas like telling your friend to have sex with your girlfriend while you video tape it sounds retarded but what do you do if the two of them say yes? If you can't deal with the result of them both saying yes, then it's something that shouldn't be said, even as a joke, even if the chance of a yes is 1/99999999

so is your gf calling you out on that move and/or your personality?
I don't know and I don't care. If she thinks my crazy ideas are stupid then she's not the woman for me.

Given the nature of the OP someone has to call him on this. And by someone, I mean, someone who isn't me.

On topic edit: I'll suggest things without thinking about them, but if someone in the group says something along the lines of "ok, let's do it" I'll usually be up for it.

An example: Drove my friend to look at a car in Bath, Pennsylvania (we're in Ithaca, NY). He bought the car and the deal was he pays gas/food. I said that we're only an hour or two from Philly and a cheesesteak sounded good, and a couple hours later (traffic was bad) we were eating at Tony Luke's.

I will usually go along with the ideas.

Including your very specific example of climbing on top of schools. On my birthday in 5th grade I suggested that we climb on top of the elementary school, and we did.

i dont think ive ever backed out of one of my own suggestions. i dont really recall any of my friends being like that either. even when one of us decided shooting bottle rockets and roman candles at each other was a good idea. i do kind of regret coming up with the idea for trying to jump over a moving car, that didnt end well for us all. i barely made it away with a tumble over the hood and into the street, couple of others got actual injuries. but fun was had, and it killed about 3 hours of a boring friday night.

When I was in university and suggested to friends we should get together and study I almost always ended up bitching out and getting wasted when they called me on it.
