I only have two hard drives in my computer, but it says i have three!

I have an 80GB Maxtor (C) and a 40GB IBM Deckstar (D). In "my computer" it also shows another local drive (H), and it has a question mark next to the icon. I right clicked on it and went to properties and under "file system" it says RAW. My other drives say NTSF. And it says the size of the drive is 0. When i formatted my 80gb i chose to use the maximum amount of space (which leaves like 8mb of raw space). But why is the RAW space showing up in windows? please help me out.

Right click on My Computer and then click Manage

Go to disk management and see what it says in there.

It only had two there. Its just in "my computer" where the 0kb RAW local disk shows up.

It should only have two in disk managment. Look at the partitions on those disks and see if you see that RAW partition/drive.

well i dont know what to do. i guess it really doesnt matter, but it is sorta annoying. anyone have any other ideas? the raw drive does not show up in disk management, maybe i should use partition magic and see if i can add that raw space to whatever hard drive it is from? good idea?

If you see it, and it works then go for it. Always backup data before doing anything like this though.

Do you have any "Virtual Drive" programs, maybe its a left over virtual drive that didnt get unmounted or something like that. That's just weird

I have virtual clonecd drive, but that shows up as a dvd drive, not a raw local drive. So i dont think that it is that.

Maybe clonecd messed something up? Isn't there an option of mounting virtual cds in clonecd, or is that the drive that shows up as a dvd drive?

I have a virtual cdrom drive that i mounted with clonecd and that works fine, and shows up in "my computer" as a cddrive. I doubt that clonecd caused the mysterious 0kb local drive. Thanks for your help, any other suggestions?

I'm getting lost in the drive count . . . How many actual physical drives exist on your system and what are they?

Also, is there any partitioning on either of the HDD's?

I have a 80gb hard drive and a 40gb hard drive and they are both partitioned to use max amount of space.

Yeah, someone elese had the same problem as me, and they solved it by reformatting, but i dont want to do that. I dont exactly understand some of what was said in that link though, could you explain?

Sorry, I forgot to ask if you'd ever used linux or some other thing like that. If so then its possible that windows is detecting that partition and reporting it as a hard drive. In that case, the simplest solution would be to delete the offending partition. I recommend that you use partition magic or something similar to take a look at the drive's table and then you can just go ahead and remove any partitions (linux, etc.) that you aren't using anymore.

no i have never had linux on the drive. i will see if i can get my hands on partition magic some time and hopefully that will fix my problem.
