Saw yesterday at the Staples store in Burbank (Empire Center) three I/O Magic DVD burners on clearance for $31.50 each. They're single layer though.

YMMV as to whether or not other stores have them since it's a clearance item.

Not a terrible price for a basic DVD burner.

SKU: 573040

EDIT>>>>>>>>>>>

According to pxc below, this is upgradeable to dual layer via a firmware flash.

Nice deal, I'll have to check the pile of "clearance" burners at my local store to see if they've been marked down again, and if there are any left, they had tons in Dec. 2004, but I haven't been back since. Btw, a web search shows that SKU to belong to a 12X dual-format drive, but I think that must not be an NEC, because I don't think that they ever made a 12X model. Still a decent deal if you can find one, but it sounds like a B&M YMMV kind of deal.

It's an Optorite/Accesstek DD1203. It's hackable to dual layer by flashing the DD1205 firmware.

I picked one up on Tuesday for $31.50 @ Staples.
