I/O Magic 48x16x48 is a complete POS

Well, I thought I had a great deal fall in mylap when the manager at OfficeMax subbed an I/O Magic CDRW for the OOS Verbatin and gave it to me for $29.99 out the door plus a $20 rebate. Well, this drive is crap. It freezes when you try to burn with it, and even with 48x rated media it tops out way below that. Check out this link of the CDSpeed test I ran:

Does anyone have any experiences with this drive doing something right? Please let me know.

perhaps try to change master/slave settings may help.
also check for new firmware for your drive, that usually fixes a lot of weird problems.

Your drive is prolly made by some other manufacturer, find out the manufacturer info either from firmware or other sources...

optimal setup is:
primary ide: master=hard drive, slave = cd rom drive
secondary: master =hard drive, slave = cd rw drive

go back to officemax, take out that can of "whoop ass" out it half way so the lid sticks up, ask to exchange for an verbatim cdrw or refund, if they say no, that's your cue to tear off the lid, and let the can do it's job.
