It's now official...
M$ can ruin even a clean computer with a simple update to its own program...
...
I just built a new machine...
Hooked it up to the net...
Got the updates to windows, my antivirus, and other critical stuff...
Last night WMP tells me I can update to 10...!!!
...
I thought why not...
Oh how naive I was...!!!
...
At the end of the install I had to restart my machine...
But I was going to bed anyway so I just turned it off...
...
Sleep...
Work...
Come home...
Eat...
Turn comp back on...
...
"O yeah I updated WMP"...!!!
"No I do not want to automatically acquire licenses for my 'legal' mp3 collection"...
...
Go to play song...
"ERROR"...
"The sound device on the computer is currently being used"...
...
"Well, yes I do have WMP on"...
...
Nothing plays except a movie file with no sound...
...
Ok...
Let me check my volume control and see what is going on...
...
"No wave mixers and installed"...
...
"Right"...
I did hear the 'Windows Start Up' sound when it turned on...
...
"I know a handy dandy 'System Restore' ought to get this fixed"...
"Just go back to the one created automatically before updates like this are made"...
...
One 'System Restore' later and the same message...
...
It took a total of three 'System Restore's to fix this...
I didn't even now I had any let alone three...
...
But needless to say I now have my oh so beautifully sound back...
...
"Over the Sky [angel feather version]" sounds oh so beautiful...
...
Like they say...
You never know what is important until it is gone...
So I close with this parting thought...
Treasure those precious speakers...
You never know when you could find yourself with them...
...
