I never cared about fan noise and idindt take it under consideration when buidling my rig

now...im trying to study for trimester exams and the noise is killing me---

i have an x-dreamer case with the 2 fans that comes with it (1 on top, 1 LED on side) and a uv/colored 1 in the back that i put it, and the GC69 cpu cooler from SVC (which suprisingly keeps it really cool)

i still want my case to look nice, i just want a lot less noise....can any1 reccomend an 80mm case fan that is really quiet however still is either colored or has LEDs that lights up or looks cool or SOMETHIJNG flashy b/c i dont want just regular black fans

thanks

Coolermaster LED fans are supposedly some of the quieter led fans out there. You could always get a fanbus/rheobus to lower the voltage on your fans. That's what I do.

well, which do you really want: quiet, or getto fab? If it's quiet, pabst makes some 12dba fans. I put one in a client's system, and could not hear it at all outside of the case! But if you're going for the getto fab look, might as well go directly to the mini mirrored disco ball/laser show case accessory.

Those cases with windows really are much louder. I have a windowed case, and I transferred everything into a Antec non-window case (every single part, including all fans and PSU), and it was MUCH quieter. Explain that :D

getting a new case is out of the question

and yeah id like some solid ghetto fab but maybe what i was thinking is a really quiet ghetto fab fan lol

it sounds like my gc69 cpu cooler is making 60% or more of the noise

whats a good replacement

maybe ill keep that heatsink and just get a quieter fan like a panaflo 21 db

is 21 db noticably more quiet than a 28 db fan?

Yes, but 12 instead of 28 is even better, don't you think? This machine needed to be quite quiet  so I replaced the stock AMD (Coolermaster?) CPU fan with a Vantec 60mm stealth. While it was louder than the 12dba Pabst, it's 20dba was barely discernable to the user when the case was closed.

Then put some plain old non-fan LEDs in your case to impress the.....well, whoever the heck ub trying to impress, I guess.

As has been said a few times here before, get a fanbus. You can buy a 3.5" fanbus in black or silver for about $20. I put one into my pc and hooked the four fans I have to it (2x120mm and 2 80mm) and it drops the noise down significantly. The 80mm fans are virtually inaudible and the 120's make very little noise (they are not low speed fans in the least). The upside of it is that when you need some good air flow, you can just dial the fans up to top speed and you're back to a very cool pc.

The first respons was about the best you are going to do to retain "getto fab"-ness. Coolermaster LED fans are very quiet. The next best advice is the fan controller. If, however, you wish to retain maximum ghetto (ie bright LED fans) this is not that good a solution, as turning down the fan speed also turns down the LED brightness. I know, I have Coolermaster fans in one casse, LED fans with a fan controller in the other. The fans are usually not fast enough for the LEDs to be on except for a light glow. I liked the clear fans and they were cheap.

thanks everyone---

here is what i have decided to do--- feel free to critique it

im going to buy:
a fan speed controller (rhoebus 4 knobs got good review fgt the name from svc)
panaflo ultra quiet 20 dba fan (for the cpu)
2 coolermaster LED fans (1 blue, 1 green)

this way....ill hook up the 2 coolermaster LED fans, and the already existing NON LED fan on top of the case to the Fan Controller....for the most part, if the coolermasters arent too loud i will leave them turned all the way up for the ghetto fabness but if it gets too loud while im stuyding or something and i dont care about looks, i can just turn them down with the fan controller...and the fan on the top of the case im just gunna keep on a low speed all the time because i dont think it does much maybe ill even disconnect it

and then...ill put the panaflo fan on the cpu heatsink (NOT hooked up to the fan speed controller just in case 1 of my friends doesnt know what it is and turns it down or something then BYE BYE CPU)

and im all set

what do u think?
also i can probably leave 1 of those fans i have in there still in and just turn the speed down pretty low...at least it would be doing something instaed of just sitting in a closet

no, I meant get some of these type of LED lights instead of a fan with LED lights. Then you can have your fan(s) running at any speed you wish, without otherwise affecting the lightshow.

wait pspada

right now i already have 2 blue cold cathode bulbs

so what your saying is that they make fans with cold cathodes in them instead of LEDs that dont get affected by a fanbus? if this is what you are saying please tell me where to get these and how that works

thanks

wait...r u talking about this?

http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/80necruvfano.html

if so...1 important question...does the WHOLE thing have 1 plug, or is there a seperate plug for the round cathode and a seperate plug for the fan, so therefore i can plug the cathode in regularly and the fan into the fanbus, therefore not affecting the ghettofabness in any way

It looks like the fan and light have seperate power sources and the lights seems to have a switch (in the PCI slot cover). You could also get something like these. I have a couple Angel Mod kits that I put between my intake fans and the front of my case grill. They have a nice glow from the mesh. ;)

I admit I've gone disco and had to have lighted fans; it was much cheaper than getting a life:brokenheart:

That said I got the svc "city lights" fans (discontinued) but have since read that coolermaster fans are quieter. My lighted fans aren't the most annoying ones in my case and my case isn't that loud so I'd go coolermaster.

I got lighted fans because I have a chieftec dragon case and like the red glow out the front grills but for my side window I use 2 ccfl tubes like pspada suggests; if I didn't have the front grills I wouldn't have gotten them. The ccfl tubes are really much prettier and brighter.

As Bootoo says, I thought you might just get the light tubes. but then again I removed the stock LED light fan from the center of my case window, and replaced it with a non-lighted version, so what do I know If I want to see the inside of my case, I'll use a flashlight. I'd disconnect the garish case front lights also, but it's too much work.
