I need your criticism

Hello everyone. I need your input on a website I've created. Since this is my first attempt at building a website, and my first attempt at e-commerce, I need some feedback from my fellow AT'ers. If you have an extra minute or two, I would appreciate it if you would first go poke around my site, and then come back and give me your feelings about it. I am particularly interested in comments from the people that vote NO in the poll. Please keep an open mind about the products being offered, and try not to let your personal feelings about them influence your opinion. I really just need opinions on site load times, whether you would feel comfortable buying from this site, other things I could do to encourage people to buy, is it attractive enough for the average consumer....etc...things of that nature.

After you have looked at the site, please answer the following question in the poll: If you were in the market for the products being offered on www.SoftwareForSpying.com, after viewing this site, would you purchase a product from there?

I'm not trying to advertise to you guys. I honestly need feedback. Please, if you answered no, tell me why so I can be more successful. Thanks!

thanks for looking. i have no idea how to fix that. i'm curious, what resolution do you run and what size monitor do you have? i have looked at the site with a system that runs 800x600 and a 17" screen. it looks fine. however, on my best system that runs 1024x768 and 21" monitor, i also see the big white space. /me is stumped.

yeah, but i never posted a poll, nor did i post it where many people would see it. i posted in the Hot Deals forum, in the thread that i found which gave me free web hosting. i never did get much feedback there, and at that time, the site was not nearly finished.

for details on the free web hosting i got, go to http://www.1and1.com it's the 3 Years Free promo. so far, i've been impressed. but then again, i know very little about web hosting.

In fact, Spector can automatically take a picture of your computer screen as frequently as once per second

Which one is it?😕

it'll take as many pics as you want, as frequently as you want. it all depends on how much HD space you have.

thanks for the feedback so far everyone. i would really like to hear from the people that are replying NO in the poll 🙂

Nice job on the site. Looks good and trustworthy IMHO. You may want to look into getting a secure certificate, Verisign, Thawte or even a BBB link. I've spoken to some people that will not buy online unless they have a certificate.

good idea. i did have a valid Versign link on there, but took it off because it did not quite fit the look of the site. i'll put it back on.

still no feedback from people that voted no. hmmm...

I'm posting links to the homepage design and ecommerce design lectures for my user interface design course at the UofA. You should really take a look at them and apply some of those principles to your site design. In particular, pay close attention to the 6 ways to make a good HP design in the homepage lecture, and then take a look at the ecommerce lecture and look at the inverse pyramid writting style for product information, principles of clean product details, idea of the "fold" (critical product information above the fold, more detailed information below the fold), and how to apply shopping carts.

(lectures are in powerpoint)

This one may be useful as well:

very professional looking and well laid out. Asthetically pleasing.

🙂

I agree. However, you need to proofread and possibly work on some of the wording. For example, the testimonial under the eBlaster product is missing a closing quote. It also sounds somewhat fake.

thanks for those presentations. i just got done skimming through them and got some very useful information. i don't know how i could implement everything the presentations outline though. since i know very little about HTML, i have to use a program called Website Creator. in the few weeks i've been using it, i have found myself to be creatively limited by it. but it's easy to use, so i guess i have to take the good with the bad.
