My best friend bought plane tickets to come spend the week of Thanksgiving with me. We haven't seen each other for almost a decade. My current job already gave me time off for that week, so as of right now, everything is fine. However, I maybe getting a job offer soon for this position I have been wanting for a long time and I will be accepting it. If I do get offered this new job, should I mention the fact that I need to take some time off Thanksgiving week during the offer conversation or should I wait a couple weeks after I have been on the job for a while to mention it? Or do I just call my friend and see if we can reschedule things as I'm not sure you can get a refund on plane tickets?

All responses are appreciated. Thanks!

I would agree. It shouldn't be too much of a problem, just tell them you wanted to let them know that you had a vacation planned for that time.

i was out of work for some time and when I got my current job i told them i needed a week for a planned trip i was taking. was not a problem.

I would mention it upfront and explain you already made plans which cannot be changed. Granted it may affect them wanting to hire you, but you should offer to take those days off without pay.

mention it beforehand, nothing worse than the boss hiring a guy, and suddenly he needs time off just out of the blue...next week, not cool. and with my boss, short of someone dying, a good way to lose your job is get hired, work a week, then say "oh i have a vacation i was planning"

yes, yes you do, a very long one....
