Athlon64 3000+ S939 (best price/performance out there)

Abit AV8 3rd-eye (seems like the 'best bang for the buck' among S939 boards)

1GB {2x512 for DC} PC3200 made by Samsung - including the PCB itself (a great value indeed)

An nVidia GF 6600GT 128MB AGP based card (haven't focused on a specific vendor yet)

Seagate S.ATA 120GB HDD (mainly because I find Seagate most reliable)

Should I go with Gigabyte's nForce3-Ultra based mobo instead? please explain why...

What do you think of that hard drive? would you replace it with a WD or Maxtor for better performance?

Any other video card out there (for gaming) I should consider in that price point, or is the GT my best bet?

I'm gonna throw a DVD and a CD-RW into the mix as well; do you think a quality 300W PSU would do fine?

TIA!

You seem to know what you're doing. Sounds good. If you're overclocking (and why wouldn't you be with that CPU) you might prefer the popular MSI Neo2 board, and I would STRONGLY recommend a decent 350W+ PSU. If you're buying a new PSU it's worth spending a few extra quid and getting one you can rely on. Tagen, Zalman or Antec are all worth looking at.

The 6600 GT is definately the best for the price - and do you really need both a DVD-RW and CD-RW?

And by the by, not so keen on your sig. Not that it's really any of my business, but I thought I'd let you know.

Anyone else?

Should I go with Gigabyte's NF4Ultra board that costs twice as the Abit AV8 or wait for the chipset to base itself in the market? (or in other words, is PCI-E worth it?)

wondering the same thing. ive also posted a couple things relative to your question and aint got much back yet. I did learn that the 6600 GT is definitely the best for the pricerange, but thats about it. in one of the reviews they did on the site here it said that it could be until the middle of 2005 before the rest of the other comparable chipsets come out just so you know. and these will probably bring the price down of the NF4 boards. personally i am waiting with baited breath before i get an SLI NF4 board and if i can hold out i want to get a revision of one past the 1.0 most likely the gigabyte one. The ability to go with 2x 6600s in the future is nice when they start to age just kick it up a notch. but i also read here that you must make sure that they are SLI certified. But i havent seen anything on sited to say whether they are or are not for the ones that are out. my nagging question at the moment is if higher rated ram (i.e. DDR 4500) make your systems ram ratio go higher without overclocking it thus raising speed over say DDR 3200?
