I am getting way to many lock-ups and blue screens lately and I also have an "unable to load error" when I pull up the control panel, although I can load it there seems to be an error in it because there is a blank windows icon in the control panel area.
My question is....is there a way or a program out there that will allow me to reload 98SE without losing all my data that is on the same drive as 98SE as I know I will have to reformat and do a clean install. I have a 2nd drive with plenty of room to move files there but I don't know if most of the programs will work without totally reinstalling them..ie..outlook express..
Any help would be appreciated.

Installing straight over the top should be able to restore most system files if they are corrupt but the best way to guarantee stability is to do a format and reinstall.

If you have a burner, burn some CD's ... then format. When you install an OS over itself, sometimes you have to reinstall programs and work with little quirks ...

Thanks for your help..but I have heard if installed over that the new install does not get the bugs out....I know a reformat is the best way...but is there a way to save the programs on the to other hard drive so that I can use them after new fresh install without having registry problems....
