How would i update to the latest version of winstock for 98se? ultil i do this it will keep limiting my downloads to 60KB/sec or so. Really stupid when you have to boot into 2k or WinME to downloads stuff!!

Thanks

You must mean your Winsock.DLL file. The best way to do that is to remove Dial-Up Networking in Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, Windows Setup, Communications. Uncheck DUN. Reboot. Go into C:\Windows and delete winsock.dll just to make sure. Then go back and check DUN and Windows will ask you for your CD as it reinstalls it.

Limit your downloads to 60 kbps? You must be on broadband. If so, forget the above solution .. . it does not use DUN or winsock.dll. Check your Network properties, your IP Configuration and your packet sizes.

If you have cable or dsl internet try THIS. Start the tweak test and after its done click the results button. Tell it what kind of connection you have and how fast its supposed to be (put 6000). Tell it what OS you are using and leave the connection set to normal and then press reccomend. It will say you arn't going fast enough and there will be a link lower left for Dr.TCP. Down load Dr.TCP and its installed when you download it. Run it and set you RWIN setting to 62000 choose for which addapter and apply this. Restart your pc and you should now be hauling arse. I wen't from a 900kb/s connection to 4000kb/s. Good luck!

i tried that utility and it didn't help. i remember the guy saying that winstock would do this when he installed my DSL line. My freind has the same DSL and the guy who installed it also installed a patch on his computer to fix the problem. This is not a hardware thing for sure.

Thanks!
