Just did a comparison between my phone bill and my gf's phone bill.
I have a little over $27 in surcharges from verizon, while she has $7.69 from ATTWS.

I had ATTWS back in the day and NEVER had a problem with it. She gets a signal in places I wouldnt get.

Then I went to Nextel = CRAP and their service was horrible. So I hooked up with Verizon cuz ATTWS didnt have any 'cool' phones. Now I'm regretting it and I have to wait til next October to leave! Maybe I should jsut pay the termination fee and get it over with.

Switching the ATTWS is the worst thing you can't do.
Their customer service = Joke
Their phone service = Joke
Their billing system = Joke.
Their Coverage = Joke.

Not to mention their residential and business service.
The above applies. :p

i'd have to agree with isekii, everyone i know who had ATT had some serious connection issues. then came the call into customer service after that and it just gets worse from there.

Verizon Wireless is more expensive, but your phone has much better coverage nationwide than hers.

I'd take ATTWS over T-mobile anyday! At least over here in California. The only good thing about Tmobile is they have free internet and good customer service.

Tmobile = Cingular coverage
ATTWS = Cingular + ATT coverage

i agree with isekii on ATTWS. had it for the 30-day trial. set up the local plan because THEY couldn't tell me whether I would be covered under the local or national place. They said I was right on the border and their maps could not zoom in any further. So turns out I wasn't with their local coverage when I got phone, therefore I switched to national, right? Bill comes for 300 bucks. 26 days or "roaming" and "roaming data" can suck. They apparently switched over my girlfriends phone, (family plan) but not mine. Plus reception in house didn't work. Customer service was 1+ hr wait every call.

</rant>

All in all though they did fix the situation quickly and I didn't have to pay anything except for my usage. Also depending on the situation, since ATTWS was bought out by Cingular, you may or may not get ATTWS. I heard another company bought the ATTWS name that isn't cingular and are better than the old ATTWS, but I might be wrong here.

VeggieFrog was with AT&T and her contract was fulfilled when she decided that she wanted a new phone. Not a new contract, but a new phone. After the guy SWORE to her that she would get a new phone but NO NEW CONTRACT, she bought it. The following bill was $700.00. He lied to her, gave her a new contract with LOCAL calls only. She was in PSU at the time, and all the calls home and to her b/f were not local. When we contacted AT&T billing they sided with the dealer and said that by taking the phone we automatically had a VERBAL agreement to a new contract. There was nothing in writing, nothing signed... she picked her phone, paid cash and thought it was gonna be the same old national calling plan, no new contract, just a new phone.

It was a VERY expensive lesson. We are still fighting the whole thing, and as God is my witness, they are not getting $700.00 AND an early termination fee from me cause their dealer lied to us.

T-mobile has coverage in my house where ATTWS doesn't. But you are absolutely right with the location thing. T-Mobile is great in the Midwest, but may stink like poo in California. All depends. I'm sure ATTWS is good somewhere or else they wouldn't be in business.

heh

no complaints here.... over a year with attws.. overall comes out to $35ish a month with current plan of 300 anytime... unlimited nights/weekends... unlimited long distance and no roaming charges.... I'm in baltimore and I've never had a problem with getting a signal. They've also added some crap gsm whatever.... So if another carrier picks you up it doesn't cost anything or something

I used ATTWs for a year before switching to Tmobile, I actaully was satisfied with ATTWS. But they wouldn't give me a new phone for free so I switched to Tmobile. I have to say tmobile service dept is horrible. I tried to change my plan twice and for some reasons they're just not done. Call them and the CS reps didn't know sh1t and said I got wrong dept., etc. I just gave up and am still using the old plan.

ATTWS seems to be one of the only providers that offers dual-network plans. (The new GSM/GPRS network and the old TDMA network) Considering that I drive to weird, out there places on a regular basis having TDMA coverage is important, but I can still get the benifits of GSM/GPRS when they're there.

Unfortunately the family is trying to switch to Cingular, and the f%$#ers are trying to tell me they can't offer dual-network coverage. BS, you bought ATTWS, you have it.

GSM in the bay area is absolutely terrible from any provider. There's basically only two real carriers which are Cingular and ATT since Tmobile uses the Cingular towers. The only decent cell phone service company here is Verizon and Sprint.

I'm not much of a cellphone guy though, my call timer is 11 hours total and I've had this phone for about 4 months.

I'm w/ ATT, and I'm also thinking about switching to Verizon.

They have both have their positives:

ATT:

1. Cheaper
2. Better plans

V:

1. Better Coverage

ATT's CS is much better now. My only issue w/ them is their GSM coverage. Actually, I don't have an issue w/ their coverage in my area, but some areas in Manhattan, a friend's Verizon phone will work, and mine won't (ex. the tunnel leading into Penn Station).

I used to be an ATTWS customer. I HATED it. Horrible service, horrible customer service, billing problems, etc. I switched to Verizon, and I have had no problems.

ATT = cheaper plans but crappier everything else.

My company switched us over to it from verizon and are ready to move BACK to Verizon because of so many problems.

On the family plan, I'm taking a hit with $20/phone.
With ATTWS, I can go for $10/phone a month but then I would have to sign a two year plan.

I've had ATTWS since 98 and have never had a problem with them. I have NEVER had to call customer service, whereas with Verizon, I bitched about my phone almost every month cuz it sucks and they wont fix it for me.

We went down to Orlando and stayed near Downtown Disney. The gf's phone had FULL signal while mine had roughly 2-3, which is still fine. I dont understand why everyone hates ATTWS though.

Oh well ...

Almost everyone hates ATTWS because they suck.
I initially ordered my wireless phone through them, and I had no signal in my home.
T-mobile 5/5 bars. ATT was GSM. Verizon I get 6/6 bars <~~ gave to my brother.

They also suck at other services because, I ordered Business Single Rate plan to have installed on a new business... they cancelled and changed the number for 3times. 3x1.5weeks each.
I called verizon and they had the person come out on 3 days, I got the number that ATT assigned me then switched.

So yes anything ATT sucks ass.
Everything Verizon kicks ass minus the fees.

even CDMA has aan analog equivalent

in some remote areas you will switch to analog, reception might be poor and it will suck your battery real quick
