I need to set passwords for a few folders that need not to be tampered with by children in the home, relatives, and other computer-illiterate homo-sapiens that forever barge into my household to use the coolest and fastest computer in the family.

Is there some type of software that I need to d/l, or does WinXP Pro offer some sort of service as such?

I assume, then, that you also have an Athlon64 rig at your house?
;)

just make the folder hidden.. right click folder>check hidden under attributes... to make it re-appear, tools>view>click "show hidden files and folders"

Hidden is a great idea but...what about the semi comp-literate who know how to re-enable the view hidden folders option? Is there a way to have a guest account unable to view hidden files/folders?

how about having your account, then make a seperate user for when anyone else uses it, you can have it so your documents folder is private and not accesable by other users.

If you are going to be getting up from your computer and suspect others will be using it before you get back, just hit windows key+L and it will put it at the user select screen. They will only be able to go into the user you have set up for misc use. (Your user will be password protected of course.)
