My notebook is a Linksys WRT54g
and my notebook is Fujitsu lifebook with 54g support

the problem is everytime (like 2 days) when i turn on my notebook, it said it is connected to the router. and reception is excellent. however i can't get on to the internet until i unplug the power supply from the wireless router and everything work perfectly find again.

I have another PC connecting to the wireless router wirelessly. and it just working flawlessly everyday.

So, what could be the problem? is it a security problem from the wireless router?

its not security if:

one pc works flawlessly, always
laptop works, but only if router is rebooted

try updating wifi drivers on the laptop?

Over at the Linksys forums, there is a long thread regarding this problem. There appears to be no definitive fix.

The thread is in regards to the v8 model (sticker on the bottom) and the latest firmware, 8.00.2, (IIRC.)

I just bought a v8 last night. Found the forums this morning. :| I'm hoping I'm not in the same trouble.

There is little mention of what OS people are using in the Linksys thread. I'm wondering if this is just a Vista issue.

First step is to find what is actually Not working in the Laptop.

I would try a static IP.

Also check if disabling and then re-enabling the network adapter on your laptop will fix it as well.

Check in the router config how long the DHCP Lease for the Wireless
connection is set for. If it is set too short, that will occur. You can set
the lease to Never Expire or for something like 30 days or so.

over the past 6 months or so, i haven't touch the setup of the notebook neither the router.

it just began to happen last month where i can to unplug and plug in again(router).

My wireless router is v5. and updated the bios once(very long time ago, can't remember when was it)

I have disable the network using software and hardware., but the problem didn't go away.

I started having this problem as well on a v5. I updated the firmware with linksys tech support but it didn't seem to help. I need to reset every couple days. Up until the end of Dec it was working flawlessly. There were no changes in any hardware or software when this started...

Linksys had problems since they went to V4 of the firmware

See below for a fix:

You need to go to ftp.linksys.com. Once there go to pub, then network, and then finally match your model number to the firmware. I got my old version back the WRT54G V3.0_3.03.6. You need to get the zip file b/c the exe needs to connect to the server. Reconnect your computer to your rotuer and reupdate the firmware back to that version 3. Your problems will be solved after you downgrade the firmware back.

Also some people have tried the Thibor Firmware and they claim it is better than the factory firmware. See below:

http://www.thibor.co.uk/ http://www.thibor.co.uk/#downloads I switched to Thibor 15C firmware for my version 1 WRT54G. So far so good. More options, increased number of forwarded ports, better stability, speed boost for all connections so far it seems, FTP connections connecting faster through the authentication, etc. i had same issue on Friday with it clamping down our internet access after changing a port forward. Then monday I was late to the lab and people were friggen ripping apart my pile of wires. I do read some issues people have experienced, but so far for my version 1 hardware this has been a good experience so far.
