I need to quiet my case down a bit

I'm running 2 case fans on my computer, they're both Sunon super high speed fans. They both pump out about 50 CFM, but the problem is that it also has 40dB sound, and as a result, it sounds like I'm running a hair dryer all the time in my room. Of course, I knew what I was getting into, but now my case is below 40 degrees instead of 45-50 degrees. Is there anyway to make it a little quieter?

you got 2 case fans running 50 CFM and your case temps are still around 40C? what terrible case do you have? what kind of ambient room temps are there?

i have 2 x 120mm fans running on low volts and whisper. my current temps case temp is 24C.

Something is not right.

My case fans are 80mm and I have horrible ambient room temps. I live in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. My room is on the second floor of a 2 story house. It's possibly the hottest room in the entire house. Not to mention, my computer is jammed between the wall and my desk, probably about 3 feet away from the corner opposite of the window. Not much I can do about it, because my room is pretty small. I wish I could put some 120mm fans in, but it's only a small midtower case.

you cant really do much to make it quieter and keep it cool other than modding it to have more/bigger fans. You might want to try these. since i have 120mm fans, mine aren't loud enough for me to see if they work

Those sound dampeners probably work, just all the other noises in the computer are too loud to let you hear a difference. All they do is reduce vibration from transfering to the case, which is a droning sort of sound that's probably masked by higher pitched whine noises from fans and hard drives.

What kind of room temps do you get fwtong? Does the case in question have good airflow? Maybe it has restrictive air intakes, if it does, you should probably hack away some plastic for more air for the case to breath in.

If you can get the case temps down, you can run the fans slower or get quieter ones, which is the most obvious thing to do to quiet down the computer.

I have a couple of Sunon fans lying around here and I agree they sound like hair dryers.
You will be amazed how much quieter Panaflo H1A is.
I don't think you will notice much difference going from 50 cfm to 39 cfm on a case fan, but really you shouldn't ever need 50 cfm noise monsters on your case.

Make the switch to Panaflo you won't regret it! :)

taken from my post in another thread, all you have to do is get:

1. ONE case with 120mm exhaust/intake and good airflow. slk3700, or anything that resembles it.
2. TWO 120mm fans, (panaflo L1A or whatever it's called). place at front and rear.
3. ONE quiet powersupply 350-400W. anything over is overkill, because you're not watercooling anyway. seasonic, zalman, nexxus brands come to mind.
4. ONE quiet cpu HSF. zalman cnps 7000A-AlCu or SLK900 with 92mm panaflo fan.

just doing this will take your case from airplane hangar to very very very quiet, but not silent.
the only thing you will hear at this point will be your vga card fan, northbridge fan, or hard drives.

this upgrade should cost you right around $100.

Thanks, I'll have to try that out. But it'll have to wait on that, I just dumped a lot of money going from a Athlon 900 to an XP 2400. Well, not really a lot of money, but a lot of money for an unemployed student. In the meantime, I'll try out getting the Panaflo 80mm fans, maybe it'll be a little quieter. If I ever need more fans, I can always cut a new hole anyways.

I may also have to look into the feasibility of liquid cooling in the near future. Ambient temps in my room in the summer can easily get above 80 degrees F, thanks to my Dad's insistence on not turning on the air conditioning until it gets really hot.

I just built my P4 2.6C with similar parts as you listed. Mine is so quiet, you have no idea. If I whisper then I can't hear my computer anymore. And I have 1 WD 80GB 7200RPM HDD (people call them loud), and 1 Maxtor 60GB 7200RPM (louder then my WD800JB)!

1. I have the Antec SLK3700AMB, and nothing comes close to the quality and quietness of this case! PERIOD!
2. I have the one stock Antec 120mm fan (was in the rear as an exhaust, but is up-front as intake), and a 120mm Enermax fan (loud until I hooked it up to my fan controller and turned it down to 6volts - it is a rear exhaust)
3. I am using the stock Antec SL350 SmartPower 350W ATX PSU (came with case), but I installed a Panaflo L1A 80mm exhaust fan instead of the stock Antec 80mm exhaust fan. The 92mm intake on the bottom of the unit is the stock Antec one.
4. I am still using the retail Intel HS/F, and it is quiet enough for me (for now anyway). I did remove the thermal pad and used some Artic Silver 5.

My case temp is around 23C to 25C, and my room temp is about 70F (I think, but its around 40F outside (winter) and I have my heater on). It is stable, and I plan to o/c a little tomorrow!

Actually some cases buzz if you don't use some sort of gasket material between the fan and case.
I bought 2-sided foam tape and cut strips for fan mounts in my case and things quieted down dramatically.
