I need to partition so I can dual boot Linux - how do I do it?

This is how I did it.

I downloaded MEPIS live cd from here..

I read this guide

I burned an iso image and booted from it and followed the above instructions and installed MEPIS on my new partition.

Once I had a new partition seperate from XP (with MEPIS installed on it), I downloaded SUSE 10.0 and burned it to a DVD and booted from it. The setup let me wipe MEPIS from my partition and install SUSE 10.0 on said partition.

Once SUSE was installed I followed this to get multimedia running smoothly.

Use PArtition magic and create a linux partition....then install the linux (whichever version you like) and it should autodetect the windows partition and install install a boot loader. Select the default boot options and you should be good to go...
As a word of caution, make the partition after you have run a defragmenter and you can see that all ur windows files are nicely tucked near the first sector of the harddrive.
