I need to move a saved game from one hard drive to my 360

Ok here is the issue; back before i had a 360 a friend and I spent nearly 9 hours betting halo 3 and unlocking all the skulls
the problem is that he had to send in his xbox in for repair so he does not have a console so can i do this with 2 hdd's and 1 console ?
Now i dont want to do the whole thing again so i was wondering can i some how transfer it?

No you need to get the official memory card.... probably $20 or $30 bucks.

You can recover a profile over XBL, although I'm not sure how much of halo 3's data is tied to your saved game and how much is tied to your profile.
 
I'm not sure if it's still going on, but I got a 512mb memory card for $25 using the Dell "$25 off $25.01" coupon a week ago (loaded up on my Xbox Live subscriptions and MS Points, too 🙂).

It sounds like you would only need the smallest available size, so you can probably find that for $15-20 on eBay. As others here advised to me before I bought mine, it comes in handy for moving your profile to different 360's.
 
All of your achievements are tied to your gamertag which can be acquired from any console. But your saved games themselves are on the HDD and need to be transfered.

Anyways, if he's sending his xbox in for repair, he wont have to send in his hard drive so don't worry... you wont lose your saves.

He had to send in his xbox for repair but he still has his HDD so i was wondering if i could transfer the file

Wait... so you still have the original HDD that has all the saves, and are just need them to work on the new console? Just plug the HDD into the replacement... everything you need is on the drive not the console itself.

No this is what happend we beat the game together on his xbox (repair) I dont want to do it again
so i want to transfer the saved game to my xbox

yah that what i figured.

if you want to use that saved game, you would have to be playing under his profile to access it.

i'm not 100% on this but i'm pretty sure you can't just trade saved game profiles amongst profiles. it used to be an option using some tools made at 360gamesaves.com but the site isn't up anymore because MS closed a lot of the holes that worked with the tools there.
 
you'll have to get an official memory card. I picked a 64meg one for liek 10 bucks include the universal remote on ebay.

with halo 3 if assuming you created a profile on his hard drive and dint' sign in as a guest or some generic tag and completed everything you wanted.

You should be abel to plug his hard drive into your system, plug in memory card and transfer that completely profile onto the memory card.

then take memory card and transfer that profile onto your own hard drive.
