I need to make absolutely sure an Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego will work with the Asus A8N-SLI Premium

I have this processor coming my way: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ rev. E4 (San Diego core), as seen here.

I plan to purchase a motherboard from Asus, and this one seemed very interesting because of the fanless design, Asus A8N-SLI Premium

The Asus website says that it supports several different processors, but doesn't specifically says that the one I mentioned (AMD Athlon 64 4000+ rev. E4, San Diego core) is supported.

The list of supported processors for the motherboard is here

As you can see, they mention the FX processors and even newer ones, like dual-core processors, but not the one I mentioned.

HOWEVER, I have read somewhere that this processor is similar/nearly the same as the former FX-53/FX 55, which means it would work on this motherboard.

On the other hand, I found this post elsewhere mentioning the processor is NOT compatible with the motherboard:

http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1028439445&postcount=10

It seems strange to me that the motherboard with work with newer processors and not this one.

I e-mailed ASUS but I don't really expect a realible answer anytime soon, so if anyone can tell me whether or not this motherboard + this processor work together, please do so.

I know I could wait for the Asus A8N32-SLI, but they are nowhere to be found.

You'll have no issues running the 4400+ with the Premium. It's a great board and CPU combo. I was going to get the 4400+, but i got such a great deal on the 4800+.

I appreciate your answer, however you confused the processor - it's not a 4400+, it's a 4000+, single core, as I mentioned - and since Asus doesn't mention it as a supported processor on their web site, I'm concerned about it.

Your CPU is the same Core as mine, just a faster (200MHz) Clock (Higher Multiplier really).

I and others running these have had no problems. In fact, some people have gotten the 3700 up to 2.7GHz on stock cooling.

You should be fine - I think I've seen someone on here running the Premium & 4000 as well.

The 4000+ works on it. I seen people with it in their sig post here so you should be good to go.

Thanks for the replies, it's a bit more comforting knowing this. So the processor is recognized right away, no weird messages of "Unknown processor" when booting/posting?

And now to make it even more confusing, Asus updated their CPU support page to mention that the Athlon 64 4000+ rev. E6 - whatever that might be - is supported by this motherboard, whereas the chip I have (rev. E4) is not. Sigh, this is very confusing.

I hope you are right, but it still irks me that Asus doesn't list the processor as suported, when even "older" boards like the A8N-SLI and A8N-SLI Deluxe have the processor listed.

I am about to order the same thing: A8N SLI Premium + 4000 San Diego.

Asus stated 4000+ (rev.E4), is supported from 1004, and 4000+ (rev.E6) from 1009.

My questions/worries are:
-- what BIOS version does the mobo come with, out of the box? If it is too old, I can not boot because of the new CPU, so can not update the BIOS.

-- What is 4000+ (rev.E6)??

Thanks everyone for help.
