I Need to make a CD that boots to a DOS PROMPT! HOW?

I tried just copying all the files from a boot floppy disk to a cdrom but that didn't work. Can anyone tell me how to do it? I use Nero as a burner program.

Make a bootable floppy by copying command.com, msdos.sys, and io.sys to a floppy. Then add NTFSDos (if you run NTFS harddrives). Then open Nero and choose CD-ROM (Boot). Stick the floppy in the drive and set the settings on each of the tabs. Don't change any of the advanced options.

Personally, I use the DR-DOS 7.0 for bootable CDs. You can find it (and a bunch of others) at bootdisk dot com.

Then just extract it to a floppy, and use Nero to create a bootable image. You may need to use the Floppy Emulation option as well.

get the win98se bootdisk in .imz format
use winimage to make it a .ima file
have nero use that as the floppy image
burn the cd

voila, you now have what is effectively a win98se bootdisk that boots to "real" dos mode but doesn't need a floppy drive 🙂

thanks guys, I got it, had to stick a bootdisk into the floppy drive (on a different computer than the one I need the cd for) and make a bootable cd in nero based on that floppy. kind of a strange process, but the results were good.
