I need to hook up a mic to my computer

Well, to be quite honest, you'll need more hardware than just a sound card. For maximum quality results, you'll want to dump it into a recording device, then send the product of the recording device to the computer.

At the minimum you'll need some microphone pre-amps and a mixer (e.g. this). You can then hook up the output of the mixer to the Line-in on your sound card, and you're good to go.

Note, that because you've already mixed the sounds before you record them, you can't remix digitally. Also, most sound cards generally have dissapointing recording quality. Of course, if you're just doing demos, and voice overs, this will be fine.

Don't forget your software. Audition is the photoshop of audio editing, and has a price to match. But there are cheaper alternatives available.

If you want to do real semi-pro stuff then you'll need a dedicated multi-channel digital interface and appropriate pre-amps for each microphone - but that gets really expensive really quick, so we won't go there.

The mixer that Mark referred to will work fine, but this pre-amp may sound better to you

And if you want to upgrade your soundcard, this will give you nice results

or you can use this one that's gaining popularity

Another Soundcard

On the choice of mics, I would suggest saving $50 and picking up a used Shure SM57 or Sennheiser e835 off of Ebay.

Edit: for software, try ntrack since it's only $50, and is fully capable of quality results.

There are also free demos you can download online from Cakewalk, Cubase, Steinberg, etc.
