I had a guy I used for websites but i'm not happy with his creative ability. does anyone here do web design or know someone who does? I 'm looking for someone reasonably priced, I don't need high end work, usually simple sites for clients that look nice. almost never any shopping cart backends, usually straight html or php.

also I could use a programmer who does do databases, preferably mySQl, and MS access. I have a somewhat large project that looks like I will get green lighted and will need someone asap.

You would need to specify the size of these things, the time frame, price, how much time somebody can be expected to put into it, etc...

I have a friend who's big into web design. He designs mainly for bands, and I'm not sure exactly how professional he can make it. I guess you could always contact him on aim at slashcomdesign if you were interested.

His Site
A band he's designed for

I'm sure if you contact him he can show you some fo the other work he's done, as I don't know any more off the top of my head.

Heh, I do the graphics work, but as a team we do websites. Actually, now that I have a real job, I'm only freelancing at night, so I am probably not the guy for the job if you will constantly need someone.

I've done a lot of programming in SQL and Access...

What exactly is the project and how big is it?

the bigger project that MAY happen is a CRM system for a company to handle both sales and repairs. they need to log incoming calls and their response. they need to be able to process credit cards for sales, and sync this data with QUICKBOOKS. when sending a repair tech out they have a list of people nationwide to do this so based on the customer zip code they need to be able to bring up a list of available techs by distance.

I would prefer this done in mysql or similar and PHP, then all they would need on the client end would be a web browser.

You better find some experienced people to do this. Handling credit cards is a totally different matter because you don't want to be liable if they got hacked due to the programmer you hire didn't encrypt the credit card into the database.
