Bought a used car, but don't have the smog check papers. Do I have to go get it from the previous owner or is there any other way?
 
usually you need your DMV/registration papers. if you bought a car used, the person you bought it off of has to be able to provide proof that the car passed smog within the past two years. this is how it is in california.
