I need to find a video of a woman. She is smoking a cigarette and filling her gas tank in her car and suddenly it catches on fire. I cannot remember where I saw it. The video may have been on youtube, putfile, or any of the dozens of other video sites.

If you know of the security camera tape that I am talking about please post it down below.

Thanks.

Colt, I think you may be right. After she sticks the nozzle in the car, she goes and sits back down on the velour seat on a presumably cold day (she is wearing a sweater). Her body rubbing against the seat causes tribocharging that causes an electical buildup in her body. When she goes back to the pump notice that it is the moment her hand comes in contact with the nozzle that discharges the electon buildup (pump handle=ground). If she were smoking a cigarette her hand would have needed to only come in close proximity to the fuel source and not necessarily contact with the handle to create ignition as shown in the higher quality non-flash video.

Smoking a cigarette, while gassing a car does not start fires. Back in my high school days, my friends and I all worked in gas stations. We used to gas customers cars, while smoking, all the time.

A cigarette is not an open flame.

You can throw a cigarette into a bucket of gas, and nothing will happen. It just extinguishes the cig.

Now, open flame + vapors is a different story. ;)

It happens more to women due to the fabrics used in their garments; nylon, silk...

I'm surprised more cars don't blow up at the gas station 'cause people are too lazy to shut off the engine when they do the fill up.

That only happens, when I've hotwired, and stolen a car. Ya don't want the down time of a restart. ;)

So they just leave it running? WTF? Do you pay at the pump then? Over here that would just end with your car being driven off for you whilst you were paying.

That really is lazy, jeeeez.

True. A cigarette does not burn hot enough to ignite gasoline, unless you take a big draw on it first.

It was on Mythbusters too - women are far more likely to get back into their cars while refueling. Why is this? Standing up for a minute or two is really not all that strenuous.
They said too that old people also do this, but that they also tend to grab the frame of the car to help get back out, so this discharges their static charge. The first thing that this girl touched was the pump.

I only leave the vehicle run when its a diesel...Except for the truck at my last job, it held like a trillion gallons of unleaded fuel, so it took forever to pump, and I normally got gas at like 4AM, so in the winter I would let the truck run and sit inside while the gas pumped.

I've never heard of someones vehicle blowing up because it was running while they pumped fuel.

The static was also caused by getting in/out of the car again. You're not supposed to do that.

Usually, it's not a problem, but when cold weather is around, humidity is often low which causes the environment. I would guess the RH was 25-35%. You can guess this was fall or winter because of what she's wearing, though I didn't see her breath in the video.
